PORT TOWNSEND — A dinner Saturday will honor the life of a Port Townsend man while raising funds to help his widow with expenses.
Larry Wayne Peters died Oct. 13 after suffering a stroke. He was 62.
“Larry had a wonderful laugh,” said Terasa Peters, his wife of four years.
“He lived for jokes and was always able to make light of a sad situation.”
Saturday’s dinner and gathering — which will begin at 6 p.m. at the American Legion Post hall at 209 Monroe St. in Port Townsend — will both honor Peters and raise money for his widow, said Susie Erikson and Jon French, organizers of the dinner.
Peters was a Vietnam veteran who worked as a commercial fisherman and a maintenance supervisor prior to his recent retirement.
His widow said he was “a warm family man” who cared deeply about his five children and eight grandchildren.
“Recently, he was teaching the grandkids to hunt,” she said.
“He wanted to pass that skill on.”
He also was a skilled carpenter, she said.
Tickets — $8 per adult, $4 per child and $20 per family — will be available at the door.
