PORT ANGELES — Washington State University Master Gardener Rita Dinger will discuss how to grow thyme at a presentation Thursday.
She also will describe examples of several culinary and ornamental varieties at the presentation at noon in the county commissioners’ meeting room at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
Participants will receive more than 20 ideas for using thyme in landscaping, as well as hear suggestions for using thyme in the kitchen.
Dinger said thyme is a highly versatile and sustainable herb that is easy to grow, seasonally adds attractive blossoms in the garden, is deer-proof and adds flavor to a variety of food.
Eighth year
This is Dinger’s eighth year as a certified WSU Master Gardener.
She was recognized as the 2010 Clallam County Master Gardener of the Year for her more than 1,200 hours of volunteer work at the local demonstration gardens, plant clinics and in public education.
She is the Sequim Plant Clinic manager, the culinary herb garden manager at the Master Gardener Foundation of Clallam County’s demonstration garden on Woodcock Road and has taught numerous classes and written newspaper articles on garlic, herbs, sustainable vegetable garden planning and crop rotation over the past several years.
This presentation is part of the “Green Thumbs Garden Tips” brown bag series sponsored by the WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners the second and fourth Thursday of every month in Port Angeles. Attendees may bring a lunch.
