Marrowstone Island barn burns

MARROWSTONE ISLAND — Engulfed in flames, a large barn on Marrowstone Island was beyond saving when firefighters arrived.

No one was injured in the Friday night fire, said Bill Beezley, East Jefferson Fire-Rescue spokesman.

The Jefferson County Fire Investigation Task Force began an investigation into the cause of the fire at about 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

The 30-foot-by-60-foot building in the 400 block of Griffith Point Road was ablaze by 11:38 p.m. Friday, Beezley said.

Responders formed a defensive attack, focusing on saving on a nearby pickup truck and other neighboring structures, according to Beezley.

Deputy Chief Ted Krysinski of East Jefferson Fire-Rescue estimated firefighters used about 10,000 gallons of water from four water tenders.

Firefighters knocked the fire down within 30 minutes, but the overhaul required several more hours, Beezley said.

In addition to East Jefferson Fire-Rescue, Engine 91 from Naval Magazine Indian Island, Port Ludlow Fire & Rescue, Quilcene Fire Rescue and the Brinnon Fire Department also responded to the fire.
