CHIMACUM — The battle lines over a public water system were drawn Wednesday night after Jefferson County Public Utility District No. 1 commissioners approve a resolution to study the issue.
“We will continue to fight you,” Marrowstone Island resident Billy Smothers said after the three utility district commissioners unanimously supported the water system resolution.
Smothers said a water system isn’t a necessity for all island residents.
“There are some of us who don’t want it,” he said.
But water system proponent Scott Cassill said he was “relieved” by the resolution.
Cassill helped circulate a petition asking the utility to install the water system.
