PORT ANGELES — City Councilman Grant James Munro, charged Wednesday with domestic violence assault, declined Thursday to explain the events that led to his Tuesday arrest and night in the Clallam County jail.
However, Munro, 58, said that his decades long marriage to his wife, Carol, 57, was happy and he did not expect it to end.
“We’ve been very happily married for a long time and intend to be,” Munro told the Peninsula Daily News.
“It’s a difficult situation and we will work through this as quickly as we can.”
He declined to explain the circumstances that led to his arrest.
“It’s a legal case,” he said.
“That would be just foolish on my part.”
Munro declined to say if he would plead guilty or not guilty. His arraignment has been scheduled for Aug. 27.
“I am innocent,” he said.
“Isn’t that the way it works? Innocent until proven guilty?”
He also declined to say who his attorney would be, but said that he had not consulted with him or her.
Munro is prohibited by court order from having contact with his wife.
On Wednesday, a police officer accompanied him to his residence on the 1700 block of Woodhaven Lane to gather personal belongings.
The couple celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary last week, he said.
He said he did not know if he would seek counseling.
“It depends a lot on what my wife wants us to do,” he said.
Munro was charged with fourth-degree assault (domestic violence) in Clallam County District Court.
