PORT ANGELES — The man who on Sunday shot and killed his ex-girlfriend — a mother of two — and then killed himself apparently had been stalking her in Port Angeles this month.
The act for Jeffrey Calvert, 41, a Bellingham food cooperative executive, was nothing new, police revealed Monday.
He had been convicted of stalking in a 1995 case in King County which was vacated in court only last week.
Calvert broke into the Oak Street home shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday and shot dead Christin Stock, 35, and then himself in what Port Angeles police called a murder-suicide, Port Angeles Police Chief Terry Gallagher said.
Calvert’s stalking conviction involving a different woman was vacated — essentially removed from public view — only last Wednesday, Gallagher said.
It appeared that Calvert had been stalking Stock — he had been staying in the Red Lion Hotel in Port Angeles periodically since Feb. 1, Gallagher said.
During a search of Calvert’s body and a rented gray Toyota Camry, police found a number of items suggesting premeditation — two sets of handcuffs, a stun gun, a GPS unit, binoculars, duct tape, a knife, pepper spray and .40 caliber and .357 caliber ammunition.
“He had a kit in a fanny pack that contained the bulk of that material,” Gallagher said.
“I think it is reasonable to conclude that based on his actions — and the things we found on him and in the car — that he was stalking her and had rented the car knowing that she would have been familiar with the one that was registered to him,” Gallagher said.
