FORKS — Police were continuing Monday to seek a man who eluded officers and crawled out of a car wreck to escape into the woods on Friday.
Forks resident Dillan Klepps, 24, has been spotted by several people who reported they had seen him alive and well since the wreck, so any injuries he may have received are no longer a primary concern, said Brian King, chief criminal deputy for the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.
New information indicates that Klepps, who is wanted on a state Department of Corrections warrant, is actively eluding capture, King said Monday.
“[Forks police officers] are following several leads,” he said.
Forks Police Department did not return calls for comment Monday.
Klepps eluded police at about 7 p.m. on Bogachiel Way after crawling out of a wrecked blue sedan.
He had fled when an officer attempted to pull him over for expired registration on the blue sedan, Forks police said Sunday.
He attempted to turn onto a logging road blocked by a heavy metal gate, hit it at a high rate of speed and wrecked the car, according to police.
Witnesses told an officer they saw Klepps run across the road and into the woods.
A search of the woods in the area turned up no sign of him, police said.
On Sunday, police said he had not been seen since the wreck, and were concerned for his health.
Klepps is described as 5-feet, 11-inches tall and weighing about 210 pounds with green eyes and brown hair.
