SHINE — A 42-year-old Thurston County man was killed in a commercial SCUBA diving incident Saturday off of Hoods Head Island, just north of Hood Canal Bridge.
The man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The man was using a hydraulic drill in the early afternoon to install buoy anchors on the sea floor, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ben Stamper said.
While working beneath the surface, the man became entangled in the drilling equipment, Stamper said.
