PORT ANGELES — A 60-year-old man was rescued after he fell 125 feet from an embankment at the dead end of 12th Street west of Cedar Street, according to the Port Angeles Fire Department.
The man, who was unidentified, was taken to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles with a hip and knee injury and several bruises after a rope rescue Tuesday evening, said Lt. Daniel Montana in a press release.
He was in fair condition when he was transported, Montana said.
Fire departments are prohibited by federal law from identifying those they help; hospitals will not provide a condition update for a patient without a name.
The Port Angeles Fire Department and Olympic Ambulance were dispatched at 6:24 p.m. Tuesday to help the man, according to a press release.
Firefighters who climbed down to the man found he had sustained minor injuries and was stable, but he could not climb, even with assistance, to Tumwater Truck Route to be met by emergency medical services personnel.
So a technical rescue, using ropes to lift him from the ravine, was done by firefighters with the Port Angeles and Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue.
It took three hours for the 23 people from Port Angeles Fire Department, Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue and Olympic Ambulance to complete the rescue, Montana said.
