AGNEW – A man facing a felony charge of dealing cocaine was killed Monday afternoon when the pickup truck he was driving collided head-on with another on U.S. Highway 101.
The Washington State Patrol said Jordan Reed Hintz, 45, of Sequim died at the scene of the collision on the two-lane highway near Sherburne Road.
The driver of the other truck, John Edward Gilman Jr. of Sequim sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene, the State Patrol reported.
Just last Friday, Hintz pleaded not guilty in Clallam County Superior Court to a charge of drug possession with the intent to deliver for allegedly carrying 54 grams of cocaine, drug paraphernalia and a bundle of more than $800 in cash when he was stopped by a state trooper on a seat belt violation on the same highway Aug. 16.
About 4 p.m. Monday, a 1987 Chevrolet S-10 pickup driven by Hintz was westbound on Highway 101 when it crossed the centerline and struck head-on a 2004 Ford F-250 pickup driven by Gilman, troopers reported.
The Chevrolet caught fire, which spread into dry grass a small distance up a roadside embankment.
The fire was put out quickly by firefighters, said Trooper Rick Ward.
