LAPUSH — A Sequim-area man was in critical condition after he was struck by a backhoe on a construction site Monday morning.
Loren Winters, 41, of the Sequim area was working for Crescent Development Co. on a portion of a recreational vehicle resort expansion project in LaPush when the backhoe partially ran over him, Clallam County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Brian King said on Monday.
Winters suffered internal injuries in the 9:40 a.m. incident and was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he was listed in critical condition on Monday night
The resort is being renovated by the Quileute tribe to add more spaces as well as improve existing facilities.
The Quileute RV Resort now has about 30 to 50 hookups.
King did not identify the backhoe driver, but said that no charges would likely be filed against him.
“In our preliminary investigation, this was determined to be completely accidental,” he said.
The state Department of Labor and Industries will investigate any safety issues, but had not arrived on scene by about 4 p.m. Monday, King said.
“We have pretty much finished our investigation,” King said.
The Clallam County Sheriff’s Department, Quileute Tribal Police and an ambulance from Forks Community Hospital responded to the scene.
