Man cited after truck leaves U.S. Highway 101 near Beaver

FORKS — A 34-year-old Beaver man was cited after the 2005 Dodge pickup truck he was driving plunged into a grove of bushes off U.S. Highway 101 near Beaver this week, the State Patrol said.

The driver, Anthony Crandall, and an unidentified woman riding in the truck left the scene after the 10:44 a.m. Monday wreck at Milepost 200 about 7 miles northeast of Forks.

Crandall, who was driving with a suspended license, turned himself in at about 2:30 p.m., Clallam County Sheriff’s Sgt. Brian King said.

“We responded after the fact to try to locate the driver and the passenger that fled,” King said.

“Later on in the day, he turned himself in. [The passenger] was later contacted as well.”

Crandall was cited and released after being contacted, said Trooper Russ Winger, State Patrol spokesman.

Winger said he did not know the specific citation.

“I’m assuming it was for losing control of the car,” he said.

It was not known why Crandall left the scene.

Crandall was not suspected of impaired driving, Winger said.

There were no injuries in the collision.

Investigators said Crandall was traveling westbound when the pickup he was driving left the roadway, re-entered the highway, crossed the eastbound lane and came to a rest in a grove of bushes.

The Lake Creek Road sign was knocked down before the pickup came to a rest.

The eastbound lane of U.S. Highway 101 was closed as the vehicle was impounded, King said.
