Man arrested for investigation of third-degree rape of a child

PORT ANGELES — Formal charges are expected to be filed Tuesday in Clallam County Superior Court against a 22-year-old Port Angeles man accused of having sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl.

Bail was set at $5,000 Friday for James Ace Salmon, who was arrested Thursday for investigation of third-degree rape of a child, communication with a minor for immoral purposes and possession of depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

He remained in the county jail Saturday.

Port Angeles police said they discovered sexually explicit images and chat messages on the alleged victim’s phone last July, court papers said.

Salmon and the girl exchanged texts and pornographic “selfies” of each other between December 2013 and February 2014, police said.

The alleged victim knew that Salmon was 21 at the time, police said.

Arrest narrative

Salmon knew that the girl was a juvenile and “demonstrated this knowledge by mentioning that if they were to have sex on an upcoming Monday, she needed to ‘stay quiet’ about him,” Officer Erik Smith wrote in the arrest narrative.

After his arrest, Salmon told police he had communicated with the girl via digital media and had sexual intercourse with her on multiple occasions, court papers said.

Should he post bail, Salmon is required to have no contact with girls younger than 18.
