A late-night police raid found several weapons and ended in the arrest of a West End man.
A State Patrol SWAT team was called in because investigations by Clallam Count Sheriff’s deputies indicated that Richard D. Hurn, 48, had several firearms, including an assault rifle, and had threatened police and other authorities, Clallam County Chief Criminal Deputy Ron Cameron said.
Hurn, who lives west of Fairholme, was arrested on Thursday for investigation of possession of firearms after a previous felony conviction of possession of illegal drugs.
Convicted felons may not own firearms, Cameron said.
“We had several second-hand accounts that he had indicated he wasn’t going to go back to jail,” Sheriff Bill Benedict said.
“So we were quite concerned about what he had in mind. That’s why we got the SWAT team involved.
“We did find numerous weapons, so you can see why we were concerned.
“This isn’t a really serious charge — a felon in possession of a weapon,” Benedict added.
“But we like to err on the side of caution on things like this.”
Hurn was arraigned on the charge in Clallam County Superior Court and was released on his personal recognizance.
Police found several rifles, at least one handgun and an illegal shortened shotgun.
Hurn, who lived in a forested area behind a gate, was not home when law enforcement served a search warrant on his residence.
