Man arrested after chase through Dungeness Valley

DUNGENESS – A Sequim-area man has been arrested for allegedly trying to elude a police officer and resisting arrest following a high-speed chase through the Dungeness Valley.

According to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Department, Deputy Brian Knutson’s patrol car was passed by an older model Chevrolet pickup truck towing a trailer about 11:50 p.m. Sunday in the area of Woodcock and Cays roads.

When Knutson noticed the truck’s tail lights out, he turned around to stop it but the driver fled.

The driver sped up, passing and almost hitting another vehicle, Knutson reported.

The chase continued along Towne Road, East Anderson Road, Clark Road and Lotzgesell Road, reaching speeds in excess of 70 mph.

The pickup truck drove through stop signs and into oncoming traffic, the deputy said.

The chase ended when the driver drove into a field at the intersection of Clark and Lotzgesell roads and fled on foot.

Officers from the Sequim Police Department, Washington State Patrol, Sheriff’s Department and Port Angeles Police Department K-9 unit scoured the scene.

Officers found a man they identified as Randy Keith MacDonald, 32, hiding in shrubbery at a residence on Thornton Drive.

He surrendered after the police dog was released to confront him, the Sheriff’s Department said.

MacDonald was booked into the Clallam County jail for investigation of attempting to elude a police vehicle, resisting arrest, driving on a suspended license and having an outstanding warrant for driving with a suspended or revoked license.

The case was referred to the Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
