PORT ANGELES – Kenneth Owens, who was acquitted on Tuesday of second-degree murder, was sentenced on Friday to 30 months in prison for a gun violation.
Owens, 39, of Port Angeles, was sentenced in Clallam County Superior Court by Judge Ken Williams for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
Owens had been tried on second-degree murder and methamphetamine possession charges stemming from the December, 2006 shooting of 32-year old Zane Bebee, also of Port Angeles.
He was found not guilty of both.
Owens’ attorney, Karen Unger, argued that the shooting was in self defense.
Witnesses told the jury that Bebee was the aggressor, and had picked a fight with Owens.
Owens never disputed that he shot Bebee, and on the first day of the trial on Aug. 13, he pleaded guilty to illegal firearm possession.
