PORT LUDLOW — An apparent electronic component malfunction left as many as 40 Port Ludlow residents without land line phone service Tuesday morning, a Qwest phone company spokesman said.
“Apparently, we had some issues this morning in one of our cross connect boxes in Port Ludlow,” said Qwest regional spokesman Bob Gravely, explaining the unit switches data to residents’ phones.
“This is one of the remote boxes that connects calls from the central office out to individual homes. We replaced an electronic component inside the box, which cleared things up by early this afternoon.”
Gravely said that the unit malfunction could have affected only about 40 lines.
Four Port Ludlow residents called Qwest for phone repairs, he said.
The system was back up and operating by early afternoon, Gravely said.
Lee Maxwell, 225 Alpine Court in Port Ludlow, said service was out at her home for “a long period of time” Monday as well as off and on during Tuesday morning.
