The Duet

Maier Hall series starts strums Nov. 8 in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — The Maier Hall Concert Series, a quartet of performances in the intimate venue at Peninsula College, is about to start.

This is the third season for the classical chamber music series, and it brings familiar players as well as new faces to the 133-seat Maier Hall.

First up is The Duet — formerly known as the Bottom Line Duo — on Saturday, Nov. 8.

The Duet is cellist Traci Winters and bassist Spencer Hoveskeland, graduates of Port Angeles High School who have traveled the world with their music.

They explore many styles, including Broadway show tunes, Argentine tango, Mexican folk, klezmer, rock and even country, while mixing in their own brand of comedy.

The rest of the Maier Hall Concert Series goes like this:

â–  Jan. 20: Ensemble Electra, with Vicki Boeckman on recorder, Tekla Cunningham on violin, Joanna Blendulf on cello and viola da gamba, and Jillon Stoppels Dupree on harpsichord, offering music of the 17th and 18th centuries.

■ Feb. 24: The Paul Taub-Byron Schenkman Duo, with flute and piano music by two teachers at Seattle’s Cornish College of the Arts.

â–  May 23: The Onyx Chamber Players, with violinist and Port Angeles High School graduate James Garlick, cellist Meg Brennand and pianist David White blending an early music performance style with modern instruments.

Each concert in the series will start at 7 p.m. in Maier Hall on the southeast side of the campus at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Single tickets are $15 for general admission and $5 for students, while season tickets are on sale for $50 via www.pencol.edu/cultural-events.

For more information about the series, phone 360-417-6405.
