PORT ANGELES — The Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe has reiterated in a press release issued Wednesday that it would start construction of the $25 million hotel it plans in downtown Port Angeles this spring and finish it about a year later.
The four-story hotel will encompass portions of East Railroad Avenue and North Laurel and East Front streets.
“The tribe is engaged in the environmental cleanup and remediation of all hazardous substances on the site,” the release stated. “Once the remediation of hazardous substances has been completed, construction will be able to proceed.”
The tribe also is finalizing the design for the hotel and preparing to apply for a city construction permit, the release said.
“We are very anxious to begin construction, but have to ensure the design plan that is finalized, utilizing all of the property that is now available to develop, will achieve the greatest impact possible now and into the future,” said tribal chairwoman Frances Charles.
“This is so important for the tribe and for Port Angeles. We appreciate the city working with us to develop a hotel we will all be proud of — a hotel that will not just accent the Port Angeles Waterfront, but become a new landmark.”
