This Sunday’s editior will have a special four-page election section focusing on the primary races in Clallam and Jefferson counties.
The section — which will only appear with Sunday’s editions and will not be posted on this Web site — will profile all the candidates and focus on their positions on various issues.
The top two vote getters in the primary election will go on to the Nov. 6 general election.
The primary is Sept. 18, but mail-in ballots were sent to registered voters in the appropriate voting districts on Wednesday.
The primary election in Jefferson and Clallam counties is being conducted only by mail.
There will be no voting at neighborhood polls.
If you haven’t gotten your ballot by Tuesday, contact the county auditor’s office.
The ballots must be postmarked by Sept. 18, or deposited into a county voter lockbox by 8 p.m. Sept. 18.
Clallam County
Port of Port Angeles District 1 (Sequim area): Bill Hannan, Tim K. Fraser and Corby Somerville, all of Sequim.,
Olympic Memorial Hospital District, District 3 Position 1 (Port Angeles area): John D. Borah, Marv Chastain and Connie J. Lawrence (incumbent), all of Port Angeles.
Port Angeles City Council Position 2: Larry G. Williams (incumbent), John Logelin and Karen Spence.
Clallam Conservation District (county-wide) supervisor Position 1: Joseph F. Murray of Clallam Bay (incumbent); Ryan Kent Smith of Sequim and Nancy Lynn Newman of Port Angeles.
Fire Protection District No.3 (Sequim area), Position 1 commissioner: Frank E. Clatanoff (incument) of Sequim; Wesley P. (Wes) Short, Richard Houts and Jay Edwin Ketchum, all of Sequim.
Jefferson County
The primary has only three ballot items — Fire Protection District No. 5 (Gardiner) Position 1 commissioner (three candidates: Barb Knoepfle, Richard Vaughan and C. Randy Okerman) and two emergency medical services property tax levies (50 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation) for Jefferson County Fire Protection District No. 1 (Chimacum) and District No. 3 (Port Ludlow).
The two levies call for the EMS fee to be made permanent beginning in 2001 for collection in 2002 and thereafter.
