Longtime Peninsula auto dealership drops Chevrolet line

PORT ANGELES — Koenig Chevrolet Subaru is no longer a franchised Chevrolet retailer, choosing to be an exclusive Subaru dealer effective Friday, said William I. Koenig, owner and president.

The past dealership recipient of General Motors’ Mark of Excellence Award set many sales records and achieved many GM goals on the North Olympic Peninsula since opening in 1975, Koenig said.

“I’ve enjoyed a great partnership with Chevrolet,” he said.

“Becoming an exclusive Subaru new-vehicle retailer is purely a business decision on my part.”

As Koenig Subaru, the business at 3501 E. U.S. Highway 101 on Port Angeles’ east side continues as one of the oldest Subaru dealers in the state, starting the line in 1979.

Koenig said the transition will allow the dealership to strengthen the brand on the North Olympic Peninsula.

Plans include a “completely new look” for the business and a larger selection of inventory.

Subaru sales have increased annually during the past six years, Koenig said, and set an all-time record for 2014.

“Subaru has been and remains a remarkable company with a fantastic product lineup, and it maintains an amazing relationship with its dealers,” Koenig said.

“Ever since I started selling Subarus in 1979, I have truly admired the company’s community-, customer- and environmentally friendly approach to doing business.”
