FORKS — A log truck traveling U.S. Highway 101 south of Forks lost its load, and the wreckage blocked the highway for about an hour and a half Friday morning.
The logs were loosed around Milepost 177 near Highway 101’s intersection with Oil City Road, said Claudia Bingham Baker, Olympic Region communications manager with the state Department of Transportation.
Both lanes of Highway 101 were blocked by the logs starting at about 8:30 a.m. and were cleared by 9:51 a.m., Bingham Baker said.
No injuries were reported, State Patrol Trooper Russ Winger said, and no other vehicles besides the log truck were involved.
Winger said the two-piece log trailer the truck was hauling apparently broke. He did not know the cause of the breakage.
The truck was registered out of Forks to Advantage Truck Lines, Winger said, and the company sent a front-end loader to the site of the log spill to recover the cargo.
State troopers were still on scene a few hours after the log spill inspecting the logging truck, Winger said.
