LIVE MUSIC: The more tunes, the scarier as Halloween approaches

THERE’LL BE NO FULL moon, but there’s plenty of “spooktacular” fun all weekend.

Watch out for the littlest goblins in the early dark.

Port Angeles

■ Today at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, it’s Jerry’s country jam with guest singers Bill and Rudy from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. This is the last Thursday for the talent competition.

On Friday, there’s a Halloween costume contest, and The Trespassers (Jim Lind, Israel Butler, Ron Casey, Rudy Maxion) play haunting melodies from 8 p.m. to midnight.

■ Today at Bar N9NE, 229 W. First St., the open mic starts at 9 p.m.

On Friday, Rogues’ End plays danceable chantey tunes at 9 p.m. $3 cover.

■ On Friday at Barhop Brewing, 124 W. Railroad Ave., The Hayshakers play country and rock for a Halloween costume party and contest (9:30 p.m.) from 8 p.m. to midnight.

■ On Friday at Coog’s Budget CDs, 111 W. Front St., Fontanimal, Dakota Long, Decapitate the Disciples, SST, AK-47 and a surprise cover band will be at the Halloween show starting at 6 p.m. All ages welcome.

■ On Friday at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, there’s a jam session from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by the Serendipity Band with special guests Chuck Grall and Gene Hancock until 8 p.m.

■ On Friday at The Dam Bar, junction of U.S. Highway 101 and state Highway 112, Purple Persuasion plays for a Halloween costume party from 8 p.m. to midnight. Cash prizes for costumes.

■ On Friday at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., Charlie Ferris presents “Halloween Tunes and Treats” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Costumes not required but appreciated.

On Tuesdays, Wally’s Boys play ballroom dance favorites from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover; first-timers free.

■ On Friday at The Lazy Moon Craft Tavern, 130 S. Lincoln St., the Dan de Fuca Band plays at 8:30 p.m. No cover.

Every Tuesday, Doug Parent plays his acoustic Americana from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Wednesdays, Ches Ferguson & Friends perform classic rock with a few originals thrown in from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

West End

■ On Friday at the Three Sisters Art Gallery, 16590 W. state Highway 112 (the big green building) in Clallam Bay, The Soul Ducks play hoppin’ rockabilly. A potluck Halloween costume party starts at 6 p.m., followed by music and dancing from 8 p.m. to midnight. Donations are accepted at the door.

Sequim

■ Today at Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., Cort Armstrong and friends entertain from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Friday, Linda Dowdell, Ed Donahue and Ted Enderle play jazz from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Wednesday, Bill Volmut showcases original tunes and acoustic folk rock from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Friday at Blondie’s Plate, 134 S. Second Ave., Rachael, Mick and Barry perform classic rock and country from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

■ On Saturday at The Oasis Bar and Grill, 301 E. Washington St., Dee Coburn and the Night Beats play a variety of music from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Wednesday, enjoy the swingin’ sounds of Blue Hole Quintet from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Sequim VFW, 169 E. Washington St., the Old Sidekicks play classic country for dancing from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Open to the public. No cover; $8 spaghetti dinner served at 5 p.m.

■ On Wednesday at Nourish, 1345 S. Sequim Ave., Victor Reventlow hosts the open mic from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with sign-ups at 6 p.m.

Blyn

■ Today in Club Seven lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, 270756 U.S. Highway 101, dance and swing to the Stardust Big Band from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

On Friday, The Nasty Habits reprise the Halloween costume contest with glam-punk-rock and prizes from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Saturday, The Nasty Habits plays more glam-rock, and this time it’s an evening gown competition with cash prizes from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Friday in the Rainforest Bar, listen to the classic rock of Locos Only from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Saturday, Jason Mogi plays Americana, folk and originals on the banjo from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Port Hadlock

■ On Saturday at the Ajax Cafe, 21 N. Water St., Mick and Barry play classic rock and country from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Port Ludlow

■ Today in the Fireside Room at the Resort at Port Ludlow, 1 Heron Road, Trevor Hanson plays classical guitar from 5 p.m. to closing.

Port Townsend

■ Every Thursday, The Boiler Room, 711 Water St., host an all-ages open mic at 8 p.m. Sign-ups start at 7 p.m.

■ On Friday at Sirens Pub, 823 Water St., come to the Halloween bash with Leftover Pie and DJ Jarrod Paul at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

On Saturday, Social Animals bring alternative indie rock to the masses at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

On Tuesdays, there’s a fiddler jam session at 7 p.m.

On Wednesdays, join in the open-mic night starting at 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Uptown Pub, 1016 Lawrence St., Lowire, a power trio, plays funky rock for the Halloween costume party and contest starting at 9 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Pourhouse, 2231 Washington St., Kate & The Company (Kate Copeland on mandolin, Kiyota Sage on guitar, Madeleine Sosin on violin and Tomoki Sage on cajon and cymbals) perform new-folk songs and carefully crafted three-part harmonies from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Cellar Door, 940 Water St., the Halloween rock show features Mood Ring, Trash Fecta and Puget Shore from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

On Saturday, One Egg Night plays rock ‘n’ roll and scrambles at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

On Tuesday, hang out with Ed Donohue and the Chuck Easton Quintet as part of the weekly Tuesday jazz nights from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Hilltop Tavern, 2510 W. Sims Way, there’s a honky-tonk dance to the music of Three Chords and the Truth — vintage country western, swing and rockabilly — from 8 p.m. to about 12:30 a.m.

■ Every Saturday at Snug Harbor Cafe, 281732 U.S. Highway 101, Skeeter Ezell plays covers of Roy Orbison and the like from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ Every Monday at Alchemy, 842 Washington St., Trevor Hanson plays guitar from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

High notes

■ On Friday, Key City Public Theatre, 419 Washington St., Port Townsend, presents “The Dance to Raise the Dead” with the Toolshed Trio from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and DJ Moody from 10 p.m. to midnight. There’s a costume contest, door prizes and more. $7 cover.

On Sunday, FarmStrong plays original Americana and folk music from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $15.

■ On Friday at the Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2781 Towne Road, Sequim, Steve Blanchard (guitar and mandolin) and Matt Snook (dobro and banjo) perform as Slipshod with bluegrass and Americana for all ages. Tickets for the 7 p.m. concert are $10 at the door.

■ On Saturday at the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road, Sequim, Slipshod performs at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door.

■ On Saturday in the Sequim High School cafeteria, 601 N. Sequim Ave., dine and dance to the Stardust Big Band in support of the Sequim High Jazz Band. Doors open at 6 p.m., with music at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $15 per person or $25 per couple, available during school hours at the Sequim High office and at the door.

■ On Saturday at the Black Diamond Community Hall, 1942 Black Diamond Road, a memorial contra dance for Bob Boardman, a former musician, starts with a workshop at 7:30 p.m. and the dance at 8 p.m.

Carole Piening is the lead caller, with friends of Bob providing the music.

Donations are requested: $8 for adults and $4 for kids.

■ On Sunday in the Sequim High School auditorium, 601 N. Sequim Ave., the Sequim City Band, directed by Tyler Benedict, will present its first free indoor concert, “Music for a Darkened Theater,” at 3 p.m.

■ On Sunday at Rosewind Commons, intersection of Umatilla and San Juan avenues, Port Townsend, Laura Lee gives an original concert, “Many Voices Calling,” from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Lee performs solo New Age/classical piano suites and vocal numbers in folk and folk rock styles.

Admission is by donation to this family-friendly event.
