LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: Warm, limber up with music mixes on Peninsula

IT’S CHILLY OUTSIDE, but there are lots of warm venues around the Peninsula with hot music for listening or dancing.

Port Angeles

■ Today at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, it’s Jerry’s country jam with guest singers Bill and Rudy from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Today at Bar N9NE, 229 W. First St., the open mic starts at 9 p.m.

On Friday, DJ RoBoTiX spins his mash-ups starting at 9 p.m.

■ Today at Jasmine Bistro, 222 N. Lincoln St., new group Bread and Gravy gets down with some cover hits from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. No cellphones, please. No cover.

■ On Friday at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, there’s a jam session for musicians from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by the Serendipity Band with special guests Chuck Grall and Pete Corse until 8 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Coo Coo Nest, 1017 E. Front St., GIZA, MK Ultra and Granite Waves rock the doldrums out the door from 9 p.m.

■ Every Friday at the Lazy Moon Craft Tavern, 130 S. Lincoln St., Dan Maguire plays his original folk/Americana songs from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., followed by special guests. This week, Mike Pace and Jason Mogi perform from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Tuesdays, Doug Parent plays his acoustic Americana from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Wednesdays, Ches Ferguson & Friends perform classic rock with a few originals thrown in from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

■ On Friday at The Dam Bar, junction of U.S. Highway 101 and state Highway 112, Gordon Bowlby hosts a jam session from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

■ On Saturday at The Metta Room, 132 E. Front St., Cayte Calloway’s fundraiser for cancer patients starts at 9 p.m. with Ches and Mike Pace Acoustics, along with another band, Three Too Many. Entry is by donation.

■ On Tuesdays at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., Wally’s Boys play ballroom dance favorites from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover; first-timers free.

Sequim

■ Today at Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., Cort Armstrong and friends entertain from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Friday, Twisted Roots brings its version of original folk and Americana tunes from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Saturday, the Craig Buhler Trio chases away the winter cold with its hot jazz from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Wednesday, Bill Volmut showcases original tunes and acoustic folk rock from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Friday at The Oasis Bar and Grill, 301 E. Washington St., the Discovery Bay Pirates take you back to the Old World with Irish music and sea chanteys from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, get your exercise dancing to the oldies of Final Approach from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Sequim VFW, 169 E. Washington St., dance to the Old Sidekicks’ country variety from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. No cover; open to the public. Taco soup offered at 5 p.m.

■ On Wednesday at Nourish, 1345 S. Sequim Ave., Victor Reventlow hosts the open mic from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with sign-ups at 6 p.m.

Blyn

■ Today in Club Seven lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, 270756 U.S. Highway 101, dance to the Buck Ellard Band from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. If you’re learning country two-step, there are plenty of dancers to model your moves.

On Friday, the M-80s bring all of the ’80s favorites to the stage from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Saturday, two bands, Author Unknown and Buckets of Rain, play ’60s, ’70s and ’80s hits from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Friday in the Rainforest Bar, listen to the mellow and contemporary acoustic tunes of Chris Switzer from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Saturday, the Van Dukes offer up funky soul and blues from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Port Ludlow

■ Today in the Fireside Room at the Resort at Port Ludlow, 1 Heron Road, Trevor Hanson plays classical guitar from 5 p.m. to closing.

Port Townsend

■ On Friday at Sirens Pub, 823 Water St., Rose’s Pawn Shop plays a neo-classic wholesome mishmash at 9 p.m. Recently featured in Rolling Stone and American Songwriter magazines, the band offers guitars, banjo, bass, fiddle and drums to tap your toes to. $5 cover.

On Tuesdays, there’s a fiddler jam session at 7 p.m.

On Wednesdays, join in the open-mic night starting at 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Uptown Pub, 1016 Lawrence St., Matt Sircely & Friends cheer up your winter blahs with blues, Americana and bluegrass starting at 9 p.m.

On Saturday, Dream City plays reggae, blues and rock ’n’ roll from 9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Cellar Door, 940 Water St., Cold Comfort plays alumni indie rock at 9 p.m. $3 cover.

On Saturday, Redshift teams up with Robin Bessier to deliver some original, warm jazz, gospel and pop tunes at 8 p.m. $5 cover.

On Tuesdays, join in the weekly jazz night from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. This week, the Jeff Wittekind Band plays the free event.

■ On Saturday at the Pourhouse, 2231 Washington St., Robert Sarazin Blake and Put It All Down in a Letter perform rock, soul and R&B from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

■ Every Saturday at Snug Harbor Cafe, 281732 U.S. Highway 101, Skeeter Ezell plays covers of Roy Orbison and the like from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ Every Thursday, the Boiler Room, 711 Water St., hosts an all-ages open mic at 8 p.m., with sign-ups at 7 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Public House, 1038 Water St., Sam Amazyan strums a classical guitar for a mellow evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ Every Monday at Alchemy, 842 Washington St., Trevor Hanson plays guitar from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

High notes

■ On Saturday at the Black Diamond Community Hall, 1942 Black Diamond Road, Port Angeles, The Fixations (Cathie Whitesides, Sandy Bradley and Laurie Andres) perform with Seattle caller Tony Mates at the contra dance.

Lessons start at 7:30 p.m., and the dance begins at 8 p.m.

Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for those younger than 18, or equivalent value in treats.

■ On Saturday at the Hilltop Tavern, 2510 W. Sims Way, Port Townsend, there’s a honky-tonk dance with Three Chords and the Truth playing classic country and western, two-step, waltz, swing and rockabilly from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

■ On Saturday at the Cotton Building, 607 Water St., Port Townsend, The Boiler Room team hosts its annual fundraising auction, with a silent auction at 6 p.m. and a live auction at 7:30 p.m.

To the theme of “Keep the Love Alive,” The Blue Crows play during the informal event.

■ On Sunday afternoon at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road, Coyle, Anna Tivel and Jeffrey Martin, a duo from Oregon, present their original lyric-driven works in a folksy style at 3 p.m.

Admission is by donation and open to all ages.

■ On Sunday at Key City Public Theatre, 419 Washington St., Port Townsend, four local musicians fundraise for KCPT: The Guitar Hooligans with Jonathan Strattman and John Koschnick are followed by Hank & Claire (contemporary, folk) at 7:30 p.m.

Admission is a $15 donation.
