LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: Top up workweek with tunes on Peninsula

THERE’S MORE THAN enough talent to be found on the Peninsula.

Read on for up-and-coming groups, along with local favorites for your entertainment.

Port Angeles

■ Today at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, it’s Jerry’s country jam with guest singer Terry Roszatycki from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The monthlong musical talent show continues.

On Saturday, Chantilly Lace returns with its special brand of classic rock featuring Chuck Darland on rhythm guitar and vocals, Dave Bailey on lead guitar and vocals, Dave Schaumburg on bass guitar and vocals, and special guest Craig Dills on drums from 8 p.m. to midnight.

■ Today at Bar N9NE, 229 W. First St., the open mic starts at 9 p.m.

On Friday, DJ Bizzle whirls the best songs from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.

On Saturday, PufnStuff, with Ches Ferguson, Mike Pace, Terry Smith and Paul Stehr-Green, plays rock from 9 p.m. to midnight. $3 cover.

■ On Friday at The Metta Room, 132 E. Front St., Three Too Many plays rock with an alternative edge at 9 p.m. $3 cover.

On Saturday, it’s DJ RoBoTiX for a lively night of popular music.

Note: The planned benefit for The Static Illusion’s fire recovery fund has been postponed to Jan. 30.

■ On Friday at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, there’s a jam session from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by Rosalie and Dave Secord with Luck of the Draw and special guests Bill and Rudy playing rock ’n’ roll until 8 p.m.

On Sundays, join the open mic with Vienna and Dottie from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

■ Every Friday at The Lazy Moon Craft Tavern, 130 S. Lincoln St., Dan Maguire plays his original folk and Americana from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Wednesdays, Ches Ferguson & Friends perform classic rock with a few originals thrown in from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

■ On Friday at The Dam Bar, junction of U.S. Highway 101 and state Highway 112, Gordon Bowlby hosts a jam session from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

■ On Sunday and Wednesday at Cafe New Day, 102 W. Front St., Gerald Braude plays finger-style jazz on his acoustic guitar from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

■ On Tuesdays at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., Wally’s Boys play jazz dance favorites from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover; first-timers free.

Sequim

■ Today at Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., Cort Armstrong’s acoustic music set goes from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Friday, Hot Lamas play bluegrass from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Saturday, Les Paulish plays originals in jazz from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Wednesday, Bill Volmut offers up folk and rock tunes from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Friday at Stymie’s Bar and Grill at the Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road, R&B (Rachael and Barry) play classic rock and Motown from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Sequim VFW, 169 E. Washington St., Round Trip plays a mix of live music for dancing from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. No cover.

Blyn

■ Today in the Club Seven lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, 270756 U.S. Highway 101, dance to Haywire with Denny Secord Jr. playing country the way you remember it from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Friday, on its first visit from Seattle, Jet City Players play Top 40 hits from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Saturday, Whiskey River, a 10-piece band, plays tribute rock hits of Lynyrd Skynyrd and other greats from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Friday in the Rainforest Bar, listen to the mellow tunes of Jim Hoffman and his son from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Saturday, Rachael Jorgensen plays contemporary, folk and current tunes from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

■ On Wednesday at Nourish, 1345 S. Sequim Ave., Victor Reventlow hosts the open mic from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with sign-ups at 6 p.m.

Port Ludlow

■ Today in the Fireside Room at the Resort at Port Ludlow, 1 Heron Road, Trevor Hanson plays classical guitar from 5 p.m. to closing.

Port Townsend

■ Today at the Cellar Door, 940 Water St., come check out this week’s local DJ starting at 9 p.m.

On Friday, if you’re into psychedelic rock, Wind Burial and Golden Gardens come over from Seattle for a special performance at 9 p.m. For those 21 and older only. $5 cover.

On Saturday, hear the dance band Solatti featuring Robin Bessier at 8 p.m. $5 cover.

On Tuesdays, join the weekly jazz night from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. This week, Al Harris and Craig Buhler play the free event, introducing Jessie Lee on vocals.

■ Today, the Boiler Room, 711 Water St., hosts an all-ages open mic at 8 p.m., with sign-ups at 7 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Uptown Pub, 1016 Lawrence St., Brother Townsend presents originals in progressive Americana starting at 9 p.m.

On Saturday, Ben Hunter and Joe Seamons play blues and folk, rags and hokum at 9 p.m.

On Tuesdays, join in on an open mic with Jarrod Bramson at 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at Sirens, 823 Water St., Michele D’Amour and the Love Dealers play high-energy blues for dancing and heart-wrenching from 9 p.m. to midnight. $5 cover.

On Saturday, Bad Koala of Seattle plays reggae and ska at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

On Tuesdays, there’s a fiddler jam session starting at 7 p.m.

On Wednesdays, join the open mic starting at 9 p.m.

■ Every Monday at Alchemy, 842 Washington St., Trevor Hanson plays guitar from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Discovery Bay

■ Every Saturday at Snug Harbor Cafe, 281732 U.S. Highway 101, Skeeter Ezell plays covers of Roy Orbison and the like from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

High notes

■ On Friday at the Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2781 Towne Road, Sequim, the Peninsula Friends of Music present the Deka Piano Trio featuring Gary McRoberts and the Powerhouse Band featuring Kate Powers for an evening of “Bach to Bluegrass” at 7 p.m. $10 suggested donation.

■ On Friday at Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 2333 San Juan Ave., Port Townsend, a “Love Affair on Three Legs” concert at 7 p.m. celebrates the fellowship hall’s 1935 Steinway & Sons grand piano.

Four pianists — Bob Frances, Evan Millman, Pat Rodgers and Ikue Goldstein — will take the grand through a varied program, from Abdullah Ibrahim’s “African Piano” to Evan Millman’s “Rock-n-Ramblin’ Blues” and beyond.

Admission is a suggested $20.

■ On Saturday at the Port Angeles High School Performing Arts Center, 304 E. Park Ave., chase away the winter blues at Snowgrass, the festival and fundraiser for First Step Family Support Center, at 6:30 p.m.

Five bands are lined up to play bluegrass and country: Crescent Blue and Loose Gravel from Forks, plus the Flying Strings (formerly The Fiddle Kids), FarmStrong and Luck of the Draw.

Tickets are $14 at the door, $9 for seniors and free for kids 10 and younger.

■ On Saturday at the Quimper Grange, 1219 Corona St., Port Townsend, Seattle’s File Gumbo plays Louisiana music, from Cajun and zydeco to R&B, Tex-Mex and Western swing.

Admission is $12, with discounts for children.

The dance begins with a lesson at 7 p.m., then the band will play on from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
