LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: Savor tunes before summer’s downswing

IF YOU HAVEN’T noticed, it’s already getting darker earlier, so be sure to check venue performance hours, as some may have scaled back for fall.

Port Angeles

■ Today at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, it’s Jerry’s country jam with guest performer Danny Secord Sr. from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Saturday, The Trespassers take the stage to perform country rock with Jim Lind, Ron Casey, Israel Butler and Gordon Bowlby from 8 p.m. to midnight.

■ Today at Bar N9ne, 229 W. First St., the open-mic variety show begins at 9 p.m.

On Friday, DJ O.B.1 mixes music and fundraising for the Port Scandalous Roller Derby at 9 p.m. No cover.

On Saturday, the comedy band Beach Bum Alcoholics plays rock ’n’ roll starting at 9 p.m. $3 cover.

■ On Friday at The Dam Bar, junction of U.S. Highway 101 and state Highway 112, Gordon Bowlby hosts the jam session from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, there’s a jam session from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by Serendipity. Special guests are Kate Powers and the Powerhouse Band.

On Sunday, there’s a country jam from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

■ On Friday at Barhop Brewing, 124 W. Railroad Ave., the Soul Ducks shiver the timbers with hopping rockabilly and blues from 8 p.m. to midnight. Special guests Corey Crozier on blues harmonica and Joe Young from The Walrus band out of Bellingham add to the show.

■ On Monday at the Bushwhacker Restaurant, 1527 E. First St., Charlie Ferris makes a one-man musical stroll through time from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Tuesdays at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., Wally’s Boys play ballroom dance favorites from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover; first-timers free.

Sequim

■ Today at Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., Cort Armstrong and friends entertain from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Friday, Seattle musician Tim Scallion plays classical guitar from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Saturday, it’s the Tony Petrillo Trio bringing Port Townsend jazz to Sequim from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Wednesday, Bill Volmut showcases original tunes and acoustic folk rock from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Friday at The Oasis Bar and Grill, 301 E. Washington St., it’s country night with the Old Sidekicks from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, Buck Ellard plays classic rock and country from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Sequim VFW, 169 E. Washington St., Silver and Gold are back to bring dancing music for the public from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. No cover.

■ On Sunday at the Sequim Prairie Grange Hall, 290 Macleay Road, the Buck Ellard Band plays for a dance from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Admission is $10 per person, $15 a couple or $25 a family. Children younger than 12 get in free. Food will be provided.

■ On Wednesday at Nourish, 1345 S. Sequim Ave., Victor Reventlow hosts the open mic from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with sign-ups at 6 p.m. Poets and tale-tellers are also welcome.

Blyn

■ Today in the Club Seven lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, 270756 U.S. Highway 101, dance to Jim Hoffman’s country tunes from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Friday, Heart by Heart plays 1970s and ’80s Heart songs from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Saturday, DJ Bizzle, DJ O.B.1 and DJ Tommy G bring Glow 4, a DJ rave and dance party, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Friday in the Rainforest Bar, listen to the sweet and salty sounds of Trail Mix from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Saturday, Joey James Dean comes up from Bremerton to play country acoustic and pop rock from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Port Ludlow

■ Today in the Fireside Room at the Resort at Port Ludlow, 1 Heron Road, Trevor Hanson plays classical guitar from 6 p.m. to closing.

Port Townsend

■ On Friday and Saturday at Sirens Pub, 823 Water St., Small Souls, an Americana-folk trio from Portland, Ore., plays at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

On Tuesdays, there’s a fiddler jam session at 7 p.m.

On Wednesdays, join in the open-mic night starting at 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Uptown Pub, 1016 Lawrence St., Joy in Mudville plays bluegrass, rock, funk and blues starting at 8 p.m.

On Saturday, come back for bluegrass, folk and Americana music by Matt Sircely at 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at Port Townsend Brewing, 330 10th St., the Delta Rays transport you to Cajun land with their original music, featuring Peter Evasick playing violin and George Radebaugh on keyboard/accordion from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Sunday, The Alternators play zydeco in the beer garden from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

On Wednesday, the Celtic lilt of Lobo Del Mar brings a musical world journey to the beer garden from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Cellar Door, 940 Water St., Cabana plays jazz from Seattle at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

On Saturday, “New Age jazz luminary” and recording artist Scott Cossu of Olympia entertains from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. John Croarkin joins Scott on saxophone, flute and harmonica, with local drummer Tom Svornich part of the group. $10 cover.

On Tuesday, Chuck Easton Jazz plays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. No cover.

■ On Saturday at the Pourhouse, 2231 Washington St., Shady Grove performs rock, soul and R&B in the impound lot from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. For those 21 and older. Free.

■ On Saturday at the Quimper Grange, 1219 Corona St., caller Jeanie Murphy teams up with the PT Cruisers for the monthly square dance and social from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Tickets: adults, $6; ages 16 to 3, $3; younger than 3, free.

■ Every Monday at Alchemy, 842 Washington St., Trevor Hanson plays guitar from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

High notes

■ On Friday at the Sekiu Community Center, 42 Rice St., the Secords of the Luck of the Draw Band entertain seniors at the potluck lunch starting at noon until requests stop.

■ On Friday at the Port Townsend Elks Lodge, 555 Otto St., the Olympic Peninsula Dance Club opens its 2014-15 dance season with the rock, soul and rhythm and blues of Kevin Mason with the Yacht Club Band from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

The band features Jim Wickens and Doug Noltemeier on guitar, Walter Harris on bass, Josh Dylan Peters on drums and Selena Espinoza backing up the vocals.

Admission is $10 and includes an intermediate East Coast swing lesson by Janice Eklund at 7 p.m. Experienced dancers are encouraged to come help beginners. Couples and singles are welcome.

This is a smoke-free dance open to all ages.

■ On Saturday on the grounds of Quilcene School, 294715 U.S. Highway 101, the Quilcene Fair features the Pine Hearts (folk, rock, country and mountain-style) at noon, Twisted Roots (folk, classic country and pop covers) at 1:15 p.m. and The Fire Inside (Celtic) at 2:30 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road, Coyle, the Twisted Roots continues its classic rock using guitar, dobro, banjo, ukulele, lap steel, harmonica and bass at 7:30 p.m. Admission by donation; complimentary cookies and coffee at intermission.

■ On Sunday at the James Center for Performing Arts in Carrie Blake Park, 202 N. Blake Ave., Sequim, the Sequim City Band plays a free concert in the summer series from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

■ On Sunday at the Rosewind Common House, 3131 Haines St., Port Townsend, Nan Evans calls English dance music from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., with a potluck dinner afterward. $5 suggested donation.
