LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: Music muse paints town

CONCERTS AND MUSIC fill the hills and valleys of the Peninsula this weekend and into next week.

There is a wide variety of live music to choose from and enjoy.

Port Angeles

■ Today at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, it’s Jerry’s country jam with guest singers Rusty and Duke from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Saturday, the Soul Ducks play upbeat, danceable rockabilly and blues from 8 p.m. to midnight. No cover.

■ Today at The Dam Bar, junction of U.S. Highway 101 and state Highway 112, Chip Norris hosts the jam session from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

■ Today at Bar N9ne, 229 W. First St., the open-mic variety show begins at 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, Rosalie and Dave Secord and the Luck of the Draw band play with guest Danny Secord Sr. from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Sunday, join the country jam from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

■ On Friday, Locos Only (Kevin Lee Magner, Scott Bradley, Russ Lowry and Taylor Ackley) plays at Barhop Brewing, 124 W. Railroad Ave, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. It’s a “roots in the blender” brand of rock for dancing.

■ On Tuesdays at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., Wally’s Boys play ballroom dance favorites from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover; first-timers free.

Sequim

■ Today at Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., Cort Armstrong and friends entertain from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Friday, Sam Amazyan and Brandon Smith, a violin and cello duo from Port Townsend, come for a night of flamenco and jazz from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Saturday, Linda Dowdell and Craig Buhler, with New York City guest vocalist Elinore O’Connell, play “West Coast jazz” from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Wednesday, Bill Volmut showcases original tunes and acoustic folk rock from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Friday at The Oasis Bar and Grill, 301 E. Washington St., Gil Yslas plays a variety of tunes from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the Whiskey Minstrels play original blues and folk tales with a 1950s and ’60s flair from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, it’s time to dance to the oldies, rock ’n’ roll and country of the Night Beats from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Sequim VFW, 169 E. Washington St., Round Trip plays a variety of music for the public to dance to from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. No cover.

■ On Saturday at the Holiday Inn Express, 1441 E. Washington St., Gil Yslas entertains at the weekly Music on the Roof from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Wednesday at Nourish, 1345 S. Sequim Ave., Victor Reventlow hosts the open mic from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with sign-ups at 6 p.m.

Blyn

■ On Friday in Club Seven lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, 270756 U.S. Highway 101, dance to D.J. Bizzle during “Blacklite Bingo” from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Joy in Mudville and Locos Only play during the Far West Beerfest between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. $25 admission; tickets at www.farwestbeerfest.com. For 21 and older only; ID required. Proceeds go to the Hurricane Ridge Winter Sports Education Foundation.

Also Saturday, Haywire starts out with some country fun at 5 p.m. before riding a mechanical bull from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Country Rock Association follows from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Friday in the Rainforest Bar, listen to the funky blues of Julie Dukes from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Saturday, Rachael Jorgensen plays contemporary folk from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Port Hadlock

■ On Friday at the Ajax Cafe, 21 N. Water St., Buzz Rogowski plays jazz and standards from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Saturday, Trevor Hanson plays classical guitar from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Port Ludlow

■ Today in the Fireside Room at the Resort at Port Ludlow, 1 Heron Road, Trevor Hanson plays from 6 p.m. to closing.

Port Townsend

■ On Friday at the Uptown Pub, 1016 Lawrence St., listen or dance to the reggae, blues and rock of Dream City from 9 p.m. to midnight.

On Saturday, Sam Maynard, a local singer-songwriter, plays originals and covers starting at 9 p.m.

■ On Friday, the Boiler Room, 711 Water St., hosts a Los Angeles indie rock group, NYBY, along with Port Townsend locals Puget Shore from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Cellar Door, 940 Water St., Robin Bessier plays jazz from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, the Badd Dog Blues Society with Andy Koch plays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Wednesday, the Blue Holiday Band steps up from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

■ On Friday at Port Townsend Brewing, 330 10th St., Badd Dog Blues Society brings its up-tempo blues ensemble, featuring Andy Koch, onto the garden stage from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Saturday, the Scott Pemberton Trio kicks off the annual Brewfest to benefit the Edensaw Community Cancer Foundation with raffles, auctions, food and brews from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Sunday, Mark Clawson plays a mix of new-age, classical and blues scramble on his acoustic guitar from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. No cover.

On Wednesday, local musicians in FarmStrong bring Americana roots with harmony vocals and a variety of instruments from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Pourhouse, 2231 Washington St., The Yacht Club performs rock, soul and R&B in the beer garden from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. For 21 and older. Free.

On Saturday, the Chuck Easton Sextet plays jazz in the impound lot from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. For 21 and older. Free.

■ Every Monday, Trevor Hanson plays guitar at Alchemy, 842 Washington St., from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Tuesdays at Sirens Pub, 823 Water St., there’s a fiddler jam session at 7 p.m.

On Wednesdays, join in the open mic night starting at 9 p.m.

High notes

■ Today, the free Port Townsend Concert on the Dock brings the Blue Holiday Band to Pope Marine Plaza in downtown Port Townsend from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with gates opening at 4:30 p.m. The group is composed of Frank Anderson, vocals; Randy Cole, basses; George Radebaugh, piano/keyboards; and Tim Sheffel, drums, and plays old-school R&B, blues, funk and jazz.

Attendees can bring picnics or find food to-go at local businesses.

A beer, wine and cider garden will be available.

■ From Friday through Sunday, there is a festival of music, food and fun in Port Ludlow at 121 Marina View Drive. Hear the Ian McFeron Band, Ranger and the Re-Arrangers, Buck Ellard, the Amber Waves band, Fat Chance and the Delta Rays. Local favorite Katelyn Hart performs Saturday evening, while Porto Alegre brings the music of Brazil and Latin America to the port.

■ On Friday, the third annual Jazz at the Schoolhouse at the Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2781 Townse Road, Sequim, features Linda Dowdell on piano; Craig Buhler on saxophone, clarinet and flute; Ted Enderle on bass; Terry Smith on drums; and special guest vocal artist Elinore O’Connell.

Admission is $20 for adults, $5 for students.

Ticket proceeds support scholarships for Summer Musical Theatre Intensive for Teens at the schoolhouse

■ On Saturday, Olympic Cellars, 255410 U.S. Highway 101, has another talented group at its summer concert series with The Senate Band playing two acoustic guitars, an upright bass and singing with three voices at 7 p.m.

This is a benefit performance for the Alzheimer’s Association of the North Olympic Peninsula.

Tickets are $13 in advance at www.brownpapertickets.com or $15 at the door.

■ On Sunday, Pato Banton and the Now Generation returns for a Sunday reggae concert at the Elks Naval Lodge ballroom, 131 E. First St., Port Angeles.

Tickets are $20, which can be purchased at Coog’s Budget CDs, 111 W. Front St., Port Angeles, or at www.brownpapertickets.com. Doors open at 7 p.m. with DJ O.B.1, with the concert starting at 8 p.m.

■ On Sunday, the Port Townsend Summer Band has another free concert at the waterfront Chetzemoka Park on Jackson Street at 3 p.m.

This concert is partnered with the Jefferson County Historical Society, so the souvenir program has photos and historical information as well as musical program notes.

■ On Tuesday, the free Sequim Music in the Park show starts at 6 p.m. at Carrie Blake Park, 202 N. Blake Ave., with Joy in Mudville.
