LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: Help beat the drum for live listening

WITH SUMMER OFFICIALLY over, our local live music events are surely moving from outdoors to in, but that doesn’t mean the beats have died down for the autumnal season.

Port Angeles

■ Today at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, it’s Jerry’s country jam with guest singer Les Wamboldt from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ Today at The Dam Bar, junction of U.S. Highway 101 and state Highway 112, Gordon Bowlby hosts the jam session from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

■ Today at Bar N9ne, 229 W. First St., open mic starts at 8 p.m.

On Friday, Marshall Catch, hailing from Montana, performs modern alternative rock with a classic nod at 9:30 p.m. $5 cover.

■ On Friday at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, Rosalie and Dave Secord and the Luck of the Draw band play with guest Jim Lind from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Sunday, join the country jam from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

■ On Friday at Barhop Brewing, 124 W. Railroad Ave., Joy in Mudville brings old-time funk and rock from 8:30 p.m. to midnight.

■ On Tuesday at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., Wally’s Boys play ballroom dance favorites from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover; first-timers free.

Sequim

■ Today at Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., Cort Armstrong and friends entertain from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Friday, Sarah Shea provides an evening of jazz from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Saturday, guitarist Jason Paul plays with Dave Keyte on electronic woodwind from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Wednesday, Bill Volmut showcases original tunes and acoustic folk rock from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Friday at Stymie’s Bar & Grill at Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road, R&B (Rachael and Barry) play classic rock and Motown from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Saturday at The Oasis Bar and Grill, 301 E. Washington St., the Whisky Minstrels are on stage from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, enjoy the bluesy-jazz music of the Blue Hole Quintet from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Sequim VFW, 169 E. Washington St., whirl around to the music of Round Trip, a trio with Rodger Bigelow and Jim Noble, both of Sequim, and Dee Coburn of Port Angeles from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Open to the public. No cover.

■ On Wednesday at Nourish, 1345 S. Sequim Ave., Victor Reventlow hosts the open mic from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sign-ups are at 6 p.m.

Blyn

■ Today in the Club Seven lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, 270756 U.S. Highway 101, dance to the music of the ’40s with the Stardust Big Band from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Saturday, the M-80s bring back the hits of the 1980s from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Friday in the Rainforest Bar, get that country feeling with Buck Ellard from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Saturday, enjoy Rachael Jorgensen and her contemporary show from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Port Hadlock

■ On Saturday at the Ajax Cafe, 21 N. Water St., Trevor Hanson plays classical guitar from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Saturday at Zoog’s Caveman Cookin’, 141 Chimacum Road, The Badd Dog Blues Society with Andy Badd Dog, Jeff Dale, Lil’ Raven and Hammerin’ Hank play blues with brews and barbecue at 9 p.m. $3 cover.

Port Ludlow

■ Today in the Fireside Room at the Resort at Port Ludlow, 1 Heron Road, Trevor Hanson plays classical guitar from 6 p.m. to closing.

■ On Friday in front of Coldwell Banker Real Estate, 9522 Oak Bay Road, an Oktoberfest Party gets going with The Badd Dog Blues Society, featuring Dale on guitar and vocals, Raven on bass, Hank on sax and Tom Svornich on drums from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Port Townsend

■ Today at the Cellar Door, 940 Water St., check out one of the rotating local DJs from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Friday, Brother Townsend performs progressive Americana at 9 p.m. $3 cover.

On Saturday, check out Ranger & the “Re-Arrangers” from 8 p.m. to midnight. $5 cover.

On Monday, Danny Barnes and Matt Sircely play roots-oriented originals on banjo and mandolin from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. before leaving on their three-day Oregon tour. $10 cover.

On Tuesday, Robin Bessier and friends rock out from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

■ On Friday at Sirens Pub, 823 Water St., Spectors plays at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

On Saturday, Seattle’s Bad Koala crosses the water with reggae and ska music featuring Ian Meek on keyboard and vocals, Chelsea Weaver on guitar and vocals, Ryan Vandervegt on bass and Jack Love on drums at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

On Tuesdays, there’s a fiddler jam session at 7 p.m.

On Wednesdays, join in the open mic starting at 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Uptown Pub, 1016 Lawrence St., listen to psychedelic rock with High Council from 9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

On Saturday, The Twins & Friends play folk, bluegrass and Americana starting at 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at Port Townsend Brewing, 330 10th St., Southbound brings Southern rock, country, blues and hillbilly jazz in the beer garden from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Sunday, Gerald Braude plays jazz and classical acoustic guitar with vocals from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Pourhouse, 2231 Washington St., the Dirty Beat Duo grooves in the impound lot from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Every Monday, Trevor Hanson plays guitar at Alchemy, 842 Washington St., from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

High notes

■ On Friday at the Sequim Boy & Girls Club, 400 W. Fir St., the Port Angeles Symphony offers “Pops & Picnic” with guest conductor Ron Jones presenting a variety of popular musical offerings at 7 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own picnic dinner.

Popcorn and ice-cream floats are included with tickets, which range from $20 for adults, $10 for students and $5 for those 16 and younger.

■ On Saturday at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles, “Pops & Picnic” replays with the Port Angeles Symphony at 7 p.m. (See above entry.)

■ On Saturday at the Port Townsend Quimper Grange, 1217 Corona St., the Cajun/zydeco dance begins with a refresher instruction at 7 p.m. as Swamp Soul plays. All ages welcome. $12 cover for adults.

■ On Sunday at the Elks Lodge, 555 Otto St., Port Townsend, the Chimacum High School Band plans a fundraising gala performance from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. to raise money for its trip to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, in December. Open to all ages. Silent and live auctions planned.
