LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: Fling feet on Peninsula dance floors

DAFFODILS ARE WAVING in the spring breezes and light rain is falling, reminding us to get ourselves in motion at a music venue this weekend.

Port Angeles

■ Today at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, it’s Jerry’s musical jam with guest singer Jim Lind from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Today at Bar N9NE, 229 W. First St., the open mic starts at 9 p.m.

On Friday, DJ RoBoTiX spins a variety of tunes to flashing lights starting at 9 p.m.

On Saturday, DJ Lumpy brings his special collection of music for dancing at 9 p.m.

■ Today at The Metta Room, 132 E. Front St., DJ Aye Brau plays dancing favorites for a benefit party for the YMCA from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. A $10 donation is requested at the door. For more information, phone Christine Loewe at 360-452-9244 or email christineloewe@yahoo.com.

On Friday, Andy Koch’s Badd Dog Blues Society plays boogie blues from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. $3 cover.

■ On Friday at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, there’s a jam session from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by Rosalie and Dave Secord with the Luck of the Draw and members of Trail Mix until 8 p.m.

On Sundays, Craig Logue hosts the open mic from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Every Friday at The Lazy Moon Craft Tavern, 130 S. Lincoln St., Dan Maguire plays original folk/Americana songs from 7:30 p.m. to about 8:30 p.m., followed by special guest Strider on bass and guitar from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

On Wednesdays, Ches Ferguson & Friends perform classic rock with a few originals thrown in from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Monday at the Coo Coo Nest, 1017 E. First St., join the open mic with Jared Bauer at 9 p.m.

■ On Tuesdays at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., Wally’s Boys play jazz dance favorites from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover; first-timers free.

Sequim

■ Tonight at Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., Stringology entertains with acoustically bluesy tunes from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Friday, Rick Meade and Me & the Boys play bluegrass and newgrass from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Saturday, Robin Bessier Jazz Trio steps up with Bessier on vocals, George Radebaugh on keyboard and Ted Enderle on bass from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Sunday, Jesse Ahmann and Nicole Cannavaro perform vocal jazz and blues from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Sequim VFW, 169 E. Washington St., Round Trip plays a variety of music for dancing from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

■ On Friday at Stymie’s Bar and Grill at the Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road, R&B (Rachael and Barry) play classic rock and Motown from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Saturday at Nourish, 1345 S. Sequim Ave., Mike Kuenzli of Naki’i Music has a solo concert from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Wednesday, Victor Reventlow hosts the open mic from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with sign-ups at 6 p.m.

■ On Sunday at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St., Dottie Lilly and Vienna Barron host a music-only open mic from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Blyn

■ Today in Club Seven lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, 270756 U.S. Highway 101, the Stardust Big Band plays big-band jazz from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Friday, DJ Bizzle plays a variety of danceable music from 11 p.m. to midnight.

On Saturday, it’s the Big Hip-Hop Show headlined by Stevie Stone from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tickets are $20 at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/1172972.

On Friday in the Rainforest Bar, listen to new and old mellow tunes of Langley Connection from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

■ Today in the Fireside Room at the Resort at Port Ludlow, 1 Heron Road, Trevor Hanson plays classical guitar from 5 p.m. to closing.

Port Townsend

■ Today at the Cellar Door, 940 Water St., come check out this week’s local DJ starting at 9 p.m.

On Friday, Blackbird Raum (indie folk-punk) with Mood Ring (power rock) and Daryl & J (acoustic folk, blues) bring their blends starting at 9 p.m. until midnight. $5 cover.

On Saturday, Hot Damn Scandal makes the walls vibrate with tipsy-gypsy American blues from 9 p.m. to midnight.

On Tuesdays, join the weekly jazz night from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. This week, Pies on the Run plays western swing and honky-tonk at the free event.

■ Every Thursday, The Boiler Room, 711 Water St., host an all-ages open mic at 8 p.m., with sign-ups at 7 p.m.

■ On Friday in the Manresa Castle Ballroom, 651 Cleveland St., One Egg Night, a locally grown rock ’n’ roll band, plays classic covers, originals and more for all dancing ages from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. $5 cover.

■ On Friday at Sirens, 823 Water St., Blackberry Bushes, a modern string band, deliver elements of jazz, classical, pop and gospel at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

On Saturday, Adrian Xavier leaves Seattle briefly to offer up his soulful reggae at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

On Tuesdays, there’s a fiddler jam session starting at 7 p.m.

On Wednesdays, join the open mic starting at 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Uptown Pub & Grill, 1016 Lawrence St., the Retrofiers play classic rock and pop with covers and originals from 9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Lowire, a homegrown power trio featuring Sean Mugrage on bass and vocals, Frank DePalma on drums and Megan Hudson on vocals, brings the funk from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. for a trance/dance experience.

On Tuesdays, join in on an open mic with Jarrod Bramson at 9 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Pourhouse, 2231 Washington St., Dedric Clark & the Social Animals perform Americana rock from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

■ On Saturday at Studio 36, 211 Taylor St., third floor of the Mount Baker Block Building, Gyre, a trio out of Seattle, presents an evening of experimental electronic music and video art. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the performance at 7 p.m. Admission is a suggested $10 donation.

■ On Saturday at Better Living Through Coffee, 100 Tyler St., the Pipia Sisters (Sophie and Phina) perform in an unusual “Good Clean Fun” concert from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is by donation.

■ Every Monday at Alchemy, 842 Washington St., Trevor Hanson plays guitar from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ Every Monday at The Tin Brick, 232 Taylor St., Jack Reid hosts an all-ages open mic, with sign-ups at 6 p.m., the opening act at 6:30 p.m. and the mic at 7 p.m. Poets welcome, too.

■ On Wednesday at the Highway 20 Roadhouse, 2152 W. Sims Way, Ukuleles Unite holds its monthly happy hour open mic at 5:30 p.m.

Discovery Bay

■ Every Saturday at Snug Harbor Cafe, 281732 U.S. Highway 101, Skeeter Ezell plays covers of Roy Orbison and the like from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

High notes

■ Today in the Sequim High School auditorium, 601 N. Sequim Ave., the Sequim High School Band department presents its free spring concert with the concert band, wind ensemble, percussion and jazz bands on stage at 7 p.m.

■ Today at Seaport Landing, 1201 Hancock St., Port Townsend, the free “Spring Fling” is hosted by Dave and Rosalie Secord with the Luck of the Draw at 3 p.m. All are welcome.

■ On Friday at Peninsula College’s Maier Performance Hall, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles, Friends of Brubeck (Linda Dowdell on piano, Craig Buhler on alto sax, Ted Enderle on bass and Terry Smith on drums) perform a special tribute to Dave Brubeck’s classic works at 7 p.m.

■ On Saturday at Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 2333 San Juan Ave., Port Townsend, Dana Lyons presents a concert about the Great Salish Sea at 4 p.m.

Tickets are a suggested $10, and the event has child care available.

■ On Saturday at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road, Coyle, U.K. band My Darling Clementine (Michael Weston King and Lou Dalgleish) sings songs of relationships in the genre of classic country duets like Johnny Cash and June Carter at 7:30 p.m. Admission is by donation.

■ On Saturday at the Quimper Grange, 1219 Corona St., Port Townsend, Folinchon Band, Seattle’s Cajun dance band, comes over the water to play with Karen England on fiddle, Ted Granger on guitar and vocals, Tim Parker on accordion and Jim Newberry on keyboard.

Admission is $12, and all ages are welcome, with discounts for children.

A lesson is included in the admission at 7 p.m., with dancing from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
