LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: Dodge damp weather at live venues on Peninsula

WET AND WILD it may be outside, but there are plenty of hot musicians in dry venues this weekend.

Port Angeles

■ Today at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, it’s Jerry’s country jam with guest singers Rusty and Duke from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Saturday, Straight Shot, a six-man band from Sequim, makes its classic rock debut from 8 p.m. until midnight. No cover.

■ Today at Jasmine Bistro, 222 N. Lincoln St., Bread and Gravy plays cover hits from various decades from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

■ Today at Bar N9NE, 229 W. First St., the open mic starts at 9 p.m.

On Friday, it’s time for the 2nd Friday Art Rock (2FAR) with the Alternators, featuring George Radebaugh and Peter Evasick of Port Townsend’s The Delta Rays, playing upbeat, high-energy acoustic Irish, zydeco, gypsy and Django swing.

Port Angeles sculptor Gray Lucier is making his 2FAR debut to create a body cast on a live model. There’s a $3 cover to support the artists.

■ On Friday at Barhop Brewing, 124 W. Railroad Ave., Joy in Mudville (Kim, Jason, Paul, Colin and Terry) kicks up a musical ruckus to celebrate the bar’s fourth anniversary from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.

■ On Friday at The Metta Room, 132 E. Front St., the Stew Tentative performs at 9 p.m.

On Saturday, a Christmas party with PufnStuff (Mike Pace, guitar; Ches Ferguson, guitar; Paul Stehr-Green, bass; and Terry Smith, drums) along with the Dan de Fuca Band (Dan Maguire, guitar; Clark Driese, electric guitar; Eric Neurath, bass; Paul Schiefer, percussion; and Gregg King, banjo) begins the winter fundraising effort for the Juan de Fuca Foundation for the Arts at 8 p.m. The $10 suggested donation includes a free festival T-shirt and drink.

■ On Friday at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, there’s a jam session from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by Rosalie and Dave Secord with the Luck of the Draw Band with special guest Buck Ellard until 8 p.m.

■ Every Friday at the Lazy Moon Craft Tavern, 130 S. Lincoln St., Dan Maguire plays his original folk and Americana. This week, he’s bringing local favorites Black Bird (Noel Forest Price and Sidney Barthell) in from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Tuesdays, Doug Parent plays his acoustic Americana from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Wednesdays, Ches Ferguson & Friends perform classic rock with a few originals thrown in from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

■ On Friday at The Dam Bar, junction of U.S. Highway 101 and state Highway 112, Gordon Bowlby hosts a jam session from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

■ On Saturday at Elliott’s Antique Emporium, 135 E. First St., Hawaii Amor (Bruce and Roma Peters) plays authentic Hawaiian ukulele and Christmas music from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. as part of the Second Saturday Art Walk.

■ On Tuesdays at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., Wally’s Boys play ballroom dance favorites from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover; first-timers free.

■ On Wednesday at Easy Street Coffee and Tea House, 128 W. First St., there’s an open mic from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. No cover songs.

Sequim

■ Today at Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., Cort Armstrong and friends entertain from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Friday, Mary Tulin plays folk and Celtic music from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Saturday, Lush Life Jazz with Trevor Hanson and Jim Rosand brings originals in jazz from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Next Wednesday, Sarah Shea & Chez Jazz offer up Christmas jazz tunes from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Friday at Stymie’s Bar and Grill at the Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road, Kevin Lee Magner and Scott Bradley as Dos Locos play a variety of music from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at The Oasis Bar and Grill, 301 E. Washington St., Dukes of Dabob play New Orleans-style jazz and dance music from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Olympic Express Big Band plays music of the big-band era for dancing from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, Denny Secord plays country music for dancing from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Sequim VFW, 169 E. Washington St., High Country plays rocking country for the public to dance to from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. No cover.

■ On Sunday at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St., the Old Sidekicks play classic country dance music from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Members, $4; nonmembers, $5, with membership sign-up forms at the door.

■ On Wednesday at Nourish, 1345 S. Sequim Ave., Victor Reventlow hosts the open mic from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with sign-ups at 6 p.m.

On Sunday, Kate Lily, a singer-songwriter and keyboard player, plays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the space above the restaurant.

Blyn

■ On Friday in Club Seven lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, 270756 U.S. Highway 101, dance to Nite Crew from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Saturday, Nite Crew returns to play ’60s, ’70s and ’80s hits from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Friday in the Rainforest Bar, listen to the mellow tunes of Jeremy and Anna Pederson from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Saturday, Al Harris and Craig Buhler play mellow jazz from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Port Hadlock

■ On Friday at the Ajax Cafe, 21 N. Water St., Trevor Hanson plays classical guitar from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Port Ludlow

■ Today in the Fireside Room at the Resort at Port Ludlow, 1 Heron Road, Trevor Hanson plays classical guitar from 5 p.m. to closing.

Port Townsend

■ Every Thursday, The Boiler Room, 711 Water St., hosts an all-ages open mic at 8 p.m., with sign-ups at 7 p.m.

■ On Friday at Sirens Pub, 823 Water St., Mood Ring, Cradle Cap and Dr. Light brighten your evening at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

On Saturday, What Bang starts at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

On Sunday, Brian McMann Band plays at 6 p.m. No cover.

On Tuesdays, there’s a fiddler jam session at 7 p.m.

On Wednesdays, join in the open-mic night starting at 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Uptown Pub, 1016 Lawrence St., Meredith & Friends present soulful originals starting at 9 p.m.

On Saturday, Brother Townsend plays original progressive Americana from 9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

On Tuesdays, join in the open mic with Jarrod Bramson at 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Cellar Door, 940 Water St., The Purrs come over from Seattle to play psychedelic rock, moody blues and up-tempo grooves off their new album from 9 p.m. to midnight. $5 cover.

On Saturday at 7 p.m., the annual Vintage Christmas Show, featuring vocalist Kevin Mason and local musicians, has limited seating. Phone 360-385-6959 for reservations.

■ On Saturday at the Public House Grille, 1038 Water St., Sam Amazyan plays original compositions inspired by nature from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ Every Monday at Alchemy, 842 Washington St., Trevor Hanson plays guitar from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

High notes

■ On Friday and Saturday at Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave., a musical revue celebrating the holidays with live music from stage and screen begins at 7:30 p.m., with a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday. Tickets are $10.

■ On Saturday at the Quimper Grange, 1219 Corona St., Port Townsend, Seattle’s Trillium Stringband with Portland, Ore., caller Amy Hofer is at the square dance and social at 7:30 p.m.

The band is composed of Charmaine Slaven on fiddle, Aisling McCarron on banjo and Brigid Blume on guitar.

All dances are taught and are family-friendly. Admission is $5 for adults, free for those 16 and younder.
