LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: Bust out some moves for myriad musical fare

FALLING LEAVES AND a splash of rain are inevitable for this weekend, and so are two great Americana dancing choices Saturday: one a contra dance, the other a high-energy set, both of which boast great musicians from Seattle.

Port Angeles

■ Today at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, it’s Jerry’s country jam with guest singer Les Wamboldt from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. (new winter hours).

■ Today at Bar N9ne, 229 W. First St., the open mic starts at 8 p.m.

■ On Friday at Barhop Brewing, 124 W. Railroad Ave., the Soulshakers let you shake your booty from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, there’s a jam session from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by the Serendipity Band with special guests Rusty and Duke from High Country until 8 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., Fat Chance plays classic rock covers and original tunes for the Firefighters Harvest Dinner Dance fundraiser from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Admission is $15 per person. There is a silent auction, and all proceeds benefit fire service scholarships, relief baskets and rescue equipment.

■ On Saturday at The Dam Bar, junction of U.S. Highway 101 and state Highway 112, The Soul Ducks play hopping rockabilly and jumping blues from 8 p.m. to midnight.

■ On Tuesdays at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., Wally’s Boys play ballroom dance favorites from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover; first-timers admitted free.

Sequim

■ Today at Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., Cort Armstrong and friends entertain from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Friday, Howly Slim and Sandy Summers bring the era of musical storytelling to life with original songs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Saturday, Cat’s Meow Trio (Joey Lazzaro, Jim Rosand and Trevor Hanson) wails with vibrant jazz from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Wednesday, Bill Volmut showcases original tunes and acoustic folk rock from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Friday at The Oasis Bar and Grill, 301 E. Washington St., Discovery Bay Pirates play and sing Irish pub songs and sea chanteys from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Strait Shots plays classic rock from 8 p.m. to midnight.

On Wednesday, Final Approach lands in Sequim with some oldies for dancing from 5:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Sequim VFW, 169 E. Washington St., the Old Sidekicks play country classics for public dancing from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. No cover.

■ On Wednesday at Nourish, 1345 S. Sequim Ave., Victor Reventlow hosts the open mic from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with sign-ups at 6 p.m.

Blyn

■ Today in Club Seven lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, 270756 U.S. Highway 101, dance to The Soul Ducks’ up-tempo blues from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Friday, the all-female Hell’s Belles pay tribute to AC/DC from 10 p.m. to 11:45 p.m.

On Saturday, Sway plays Top 100 hits, rock, pop and dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Friday in the Rainforest Bar, listen to the country tunes of Buck Ellard from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Saturday, Billy Shew plays contemporary folk from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Port Ludlow

■ Today in the Fireside Room at the Resort at Port Ludlow, 1 Heron Road, Trevor Hanson plays classical guitar from 6 p.m. to closing.

Port Townsend

■ Today at the Boiler Room, 711 Water St., the open mic at 8 p.m., with sign-ups at 7 p.m.

■ Today at the Cellar Door, 940 Water St., it’s local DJ night with spinning discs from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Saturday, Soft Majesty comes from Bremerton to play signature classic rock at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

On Tuesday, Electric Blue Sun plays original music with a contemporary jazz flair from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Uptown Pub, 1016 Lawrence St., Dream City brings blues, rock and reggae for dancing starting at 9 p.m.

On Saturday, Matt Sircely plays rock, folk, bluegrass and Americana at 9 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Pourhouse, 2231 Washington St., The Barefoot Band performs rock, soul and R&B from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

■ Every Monday at Alchemy, 842 Washington St., Trevor Hanson plays guitar from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Tuesdays at Sirens Pub, 823 Water St., there’s a fiddler jam session at 7 p.m.

On Wednesdays, join in the open-mic night starting at 9 p.m.

High notes

■ On Saturday at the Black Diamond Community Hall, 1942 Black Diamond Road, Port Angeles, the second contra dance of the season begins with instruction at 7:30 p.m. and dancing at 8 p.m. The band is Notatious, with Phil and Vivian Williams, Bonnie Zahnow and W.B. Reid playing. The caller is Amy Carroll.

A donation of $8 for adults and $4 for those 18 and younger is requested.

■ On Saturday in Nash’s Organic Produce packing shed, 1865 E. Anderson Road, Sequim, dance to high-energy “Americana and beyond” with Seattle’s Spoonshine at the annual Harvest Celebration Community Potluck and Barn Dance.

The potluck starts at 6 p.m. Bring a dish to share with friends and neighbors.

The North Olympic Land Trust will be pouring local beer and wine as a fundraiser to save farmland.

Outside alcohol will not be permitted.

The dance starts at 7:30 p.m. The cost is $10 per adult. Children younger than 16 get in free.

■ On Saturday in the USO building at Fort Worden State Park, 200 Battery Way in Port Townsend, Maria Muldaur and her band’s 2014 “Way Past Midnight” show is presented by The Upstage at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $25 and are available at www.brownpapertickets.com for “Event 878565.”

■ On Saturday at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road, Coyle, Eric Miller performs with his band American folk music blended with rock, country and blues for an original sound.
