Live jazz is free during concerts Tuesday, next week in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — The jazz will be free and live twice in the coming days.

It will run the gamut, too, from Count Basie and John Coltrane to Bob Dorough and Eddie Harris, as the Peninsula College Jazz Ensemble convenes for a lunchtime concert Tuesday.

The band, with singer Robbin Eaves and a 10-member horn section, will play from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the PUB on campus at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd. The concert is free to the public.

The following Tuesday, March 11, the jazz ensemble will gather inside the college’s acoustically sweet Maier Performance Hall at 7 p.m., again for a free concert.

Just as their music ranges from the 1930s to the present, the players come from across the North Olympic Peninsula.

They’re Bob Bailey, Kevin MacCartney, Richard Thornton and Steve Lingle, all of Port Angeles, and John Adams of Port Townsend on saxophones; Bob Hagan, Dave Hinton and Rex Abbott, all of Sequim, on trumpets; Malachi Mulhair and Hannah Howell, both of Port Angeles, on trombones; and Port Angeles’ Tor Brandes, Mike Mills and Chris Martinez, Brian Douglas of Port Townsend and John Sanders of Quilcene in the rhythm section.

For information on these and other public events at Peninsula College, see www.pencol.edu.
