PORT ANGELES — A tree falling down a steep slope pulled down power lines on West Marine Drive in Port Angeles on Thursday morning, cutting power to about 120 electrical customers and prompting a road closure while utilities were repaired.

West Marine Drive was closed between the West Boat Haven and the base of Hill Street until about 2 p.m. Thursday.

Thomas Hunter, director of city Public Works and Utilities, confirmed that Platypus Marine, Inc., at 518 Marine Drive, lost electrical power and added that he believed the McKinley Paper Co., mill at 1902 Marine Drive also had suffered an outage.

By the end of business, power had been restored and all roads were open.

Hunter had estimated it would take about four hours to restore power, but had added that it could take longer given the conditions.

“It’s very difficult terrain to work on with that hillside,” Hunter said.
