PORT ANGELES — Police are continuing to follow multiple leads in the theft of a pickup truck owned by Scarsella Bros. Inc. left unlocked and idling, then recovered about 1½ miles away from where it was stolen.
The semiautomatic pistol left inside the 2013 Ford F-150 is still missing, said Brian Smith, Port Angeles deputy police chief, and has been reported stolen.
Smith said Friday the Ford was recovered Nov. 25 in the 1300 block of East Campbell Avenue three days after it was stolen from the 500 block of East Whidby Avenue.
Toolbox damaged
Responding officers found the truck locked, Smith said, with the toolbox in the truck bed damaged.
“It looks like the toolbox had been forcibly pried opened and [tools] scattered inside the bed,” he said.
Some tools were missing, he added, and the Scarsella Bros. logo on the truck’s doors had been scraped off.
Scarsella employees were called to recover the truck, which eventually was towed to a local Ford dealership so it could be re-keyed, Smith said.
“We are following up on leads,” Smith said.
“This includes people and evidence.”
Left unlocked, idling
The truck was reported stolen from Whidby Avenue at about 6:30 in the morning after it was left unlocked and running to warm up, Smith said.
Kent-based Scarsella Bros. is completing three separate projects in Clallam County: the Lauridsen Boulevard bridge replacement in Port Angeles for the city, the U.S. 101 underpass project at Deer Park Road for the county, and the widening of U.S. Highway 101 between Shore and Kitchen-Dick roads for the state Department of Transportation.
