Leadership awards ceremony set in Port Townsend

Jefferson County chamber hosting March event

PORT TOWNSEND — Tickets are available now for the 2023 Jefferson County Community Leadership Awards hosted by The Chamber of Jefferson County on March 25.

The awards will be presented from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at the American Legion Hall, 209 Monroe St., Port Townsend. The $45 ticket includes a buffet described as either a light dinner or heavy hors d’oeuvres, and a drink.

Nominations have closed for the awards for Citizens of the Year, Business Leader of the Year, Rising Entrepreneur, Young Professional and to the Future Business Leader of the Year (Youth).

“The Youth Award is given to an outstanding graduating high school senior and the quality of this year’s nominees in this category and all the others is significant,” according to Arlene Alen, chamber executive director, who added that 40 nominations were received and that judges are now selecting finalists.

“The Award Committee will have a difficult time narrowing this deep field down to finalists and awardees,” she said in a press release.

“Join us to celebrate all their contributions to our community and our quality of life.”

The keynote speaker will be Leif Whittaker, son of Jim Whittaker and Dianne Roberts, who wrote of growing up in Port Townsend in a family of accomplished climbers in a memoir, “My Old Man and the Mountain.”

The buffet will be mashedtinis, mashed potatoes served in martini glasses with a wide array of toppings available, Alen said.

Food will be provided by Hills & Valley Catering, beverages by the American Legion and music by returning Leadership Award favorites, Jonathan Doyle and Matt Sircely.

Door prizes will include food and wine, kayak adventures and a private wine tasting event for 10 at Fairwinds Winery while supporting the Chamber Foundation’s Community Development Fund.

This fund has provided more than $20,000 to small Jefferson County businesses and entrepreneurs to assist them in marketing, Alen said.

The Peninsula Daily News is among the sponsors of the event; more sponsors are being sought.

Tickets and sponsorships are available now with fillable forms on the chamber website at www.jeffcountychamber.org.
