PORT ANGELES — Joe Holtrop, Clallam Conservation District executive director, will provide tips on easing lawn care at noon Thursday.
Holtrop will speak in the county commissioners’ meeting room (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., as part of the Green Thumb Garden Tips education series sponsored by the WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners on the second and fourth Thursdays of every month in Port Angeles.
Attendees can bring a lunch.
The presentations are free and open to the public.
However, donations to help offset copying costs for handouts are accepted.
Holtrop said lawns are often the most resource-demanding elements of a landscape, and his presentation will help home gardeners reduce maintenance and have more sustainable landscapes.
He will talk about the pros and cons of traditional turf lawns and make recommendations about native and non-native alternative ground covers.
Holtrop has an undergraduate and master’s degree in landscape architecture and a master’s degree in adult education.
He has been giving presentations, leading workshops and teaching courses on sustainable landscaping for 25 years.
