Summit Entertainment has eclipsed any hopes that the last segment of the “Twilight” saga will be filmed on the North Olympic Peninsula.

The company has announced that “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn,” which will be released as two films, will be shot in Baton Rouge, La., and in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Although “Twilight,” the first film released in November 2008, was set in Forks, it was primarily filmed in Oregon.

The two sequels, “New Moon” and “Eclipse,” released in November 2009 and June 2010 respectively, were filmed in British Columbia and Italy.

The company said that filming will begin in fall 2010 and the first segment of the movies will be released Nov. 18, 2011.

Academy Award winner Bill Condon will direct both films.

The first three movies, based on the best-selling books by Stephenie Meyer, tell the story of the romance of human Bella Swan and her vampire beau Edward Cullen.

The books are all set on the Peninsula — in Forks. LaPush and Port Angeles.

Jacob Black, a Quileute teen who is also a werewolf, vies against Edward for Bella’s heart.

The fourth book tells of the culmination of Edward and Bella’s romance as they face up against the Volturi, the vampire royalty.

Although the majority of the fourth book takes place in Forks, as the previous ones do, several portions also take place elsewhere, including a fictional island off the coast of Brazil and a worldwide search for a different species of vampire.

The The Times-Picayune in New Orleans said in early July that Condon was scouting locations in Louisiana.
