A 48-foot fishing boat from Seattle was rescued by the Coast Guard on Wednesday after it developed a split seam in its hull and began taking on water.
Crews staffing a 47-foot boat from the Coast Guard’s Quillayute River station and a helicopter from the Port Angeles air station responded to the Delsie Jean about 30 miles northwest of LaPush about 7:40 a.m., a Coast Guard spokesman said in Seattle.
The Delsie Jean was taking on water at a rate of about 1 inch every 10 minutes, the spokesman said.
The Coast Guard pumped about 3 feet of water from the engine room and stabilized the boat to tow it to Neah Bay. It was expected to arrive around midnight Wednesday.
