PORT TOWNSEND — The owner of 10 acres on which Jefferson Transit officials want to build a new transit center has rejected a $175,000 offer for the property.
Dave Turissini, Jefferson Transit general manager, said Tuesday that Pamela Pepper, owner of the property at the northeast corner of state Highway 20 and Four Corners Road, is awaiting the outcome of her request to rezone the property from one residence per 10 acres to “neighborhood crossroad commercial.”
Turissini said Transit made the $175,000 offer based on a recent appraisal of the property for the same amount.
A letter from Pepper received last week rejected the offer.
Rezoning to be heard
The Pepper property rezoning proposal goes before the Jefferson County Planning Commission during a meeting at 6:30 p.m. today at Washington State University Learning Center, Patison Road at Rhody Drive, Port Hadlock.
Planning staff has recommended against the rezoning, and the Planning Commission could make a further recommendation to county commissioners after considering the zoning proposal tonight.
The new transit facility is proposed for fueling, washing, parking and administrative facilities and would be about 42,000 square feet, and constructed of steel and brick.
