LAKE PLEASANT — Boat launch pilings damaged in a storm will be replaced this summer after the Clallam County commissioners approved a call for bids at their Monday work session.
Bids for the project, which has an engineer’s estimate of $140,000, are due by 10 a.m. April 9 at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St. in Port Angeles.
“We had a storm in (November 2021) that broke out a number of pilings, which rendered one of the docks completely useless, and we had to Band-Aid the other,” said Don Crawford, director of the Parks, Fair and Facilities Department, on Monday.
“So, this project is to replace the pilings so we can restore the access to that dock,” he said.
The project originally was going to go out to bid in October but had to be pulled back due to fish migration windows set by the state Department of Fish and Wildlife, Crawford said.
The salmon spawning window opens for construction projects on June 17, he said.
The project is included in the county’s 2024 capital budget and is being funded by a state Recreation and Conservation Office grant. The construction timeframe is 120 days from contract approval.
The park is located a short distance off U.S. Highway 101 in Beaver, 10 miles north of Forks, on West Lake Pleasant Road. It provides a boat launch, loading and mooring docks, accessible restrooms, parking and a playground.
The county park offers shoreline access, although most of the lake is private ownership.
