A Lake Leland woman credits her horse with protecting her from a cougar during an encounter Sunday evening at a Lake Leland-area farm.
The hair-raising encounter has Beth Bartlett hoping she never hears the sound a cougar makes while stalking its prey.
“It sounded like a combination of a lady being mugged and a baby crying,” said Bartlett, who raises horses on a ranch at 289215 Highway 101.
“It was God-awful. I hope I never hear it again.”
