Lake Crescent traffic: Delays expected this week on Highway 101

OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — Overnight delays are to be expected this week on U.S. Highway 101 around Lake Crescent.

Here is the schedule as presented by Olympic National Park.

DAYTIME HOURS – Daytime work hours are expected to be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, until the end of March (Beginning April 2 through late September, work hours are restricted to two hours after sunrise to two hours before sunset). Expect up to half-hour delays and alternating single-lane traffic between East Beach Road and Barnes Point.

OVERNIGHT HOURS – Overnight work hours until the end of March are expected to be from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday.

Six-hour overnight delays are scheduled for Monday through Wednesday and from March 26-28 from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. During these six-hour overnight periods, Highway 101 eastbound from Forks will be open to the turn for Barnes Point where Lake Crescent Lodge is located. Highway 101 westbound from Port Angeles will remain open up to East Beach Road.

Travelers to and from the western side of the North Olympic Peninsula can use state highways 112/113 as an alternate route during the six-hour overnight delays.

Before and after the six-hour overnight delays, travelers should expect up to half-hour delays and alternating single-lane traffic from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Wednesday.

On Thursday evenings for the next two weeks, expect half-hour delays and alternating single-lane traffic from 8 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday.

Strider Construction, Inc., of Bellingham is in its second of three seasons of work to rehabilitate 12 miles of the highway around Lake Crescent in a project costing $27.5 million. Construction seasons are from March through mid-November.

The work for 2018 includes erosion control, subexcavation, milling and paving beginning on the eastern end of Lake Crescent and working west.
