PORT ANGELES — KONP’s station manager hopes to have the channel’s AM signal back on some time today after replacement parts for the station’s transmitter arrive from Maine.
“As soon as we get them, we’re going to get them [installed], and hopefully that will do the trick,” station manager Todd Ortloff said Monday.
The station’s 1450 AM signal was knocked out at about 3:45 p.m. Friday after the transmitter’s primary and backup power modules failed for an as-yet-unknown reason, Ortloff said.
“It took everyone a little bit by surprise,” he said.
The power modules are responsible for converting electricity into an AM radio signal, Ortloff explained.
Since the outage happened effectively on a weekend, Ortloff said new parts could not be ordered form a factory in Maine until Monday.
Usually, if the main module went out, the backup would have taken over, Ortloff said, and the AM signal would have continued.
“There could have been a myriad of things that happened,” Ortloff said.
The outage has not affected the station’s broadcast on the 101.7 FM frequency or streaming feed online at www.konp.com.
