Kingston man arrested following Discovery Bay wreck that closes U.S. 101

DISCOVERY BAY — A Kingston man was arrested for investigation of vehicular assault Saturday evening at Discovery Bay after the car he was driving crashed, and he and children were sent to a hospital.

All lanes of U.S. Highway 101 were blocked in the Discovery Bay area from about 4:45 p.m. to 8:50 p.m. Saturday.

Gregory F. Adkins, 38, Kingston was booked into Jefferson County jail on investigation of vehicular assault, second degree driving while license suspended and a misdemeanor warrant after he was treated and discharged from Jefferson Healthcare hospital, said Lt. Clint Casebolt of the State Patrol.

“The investigation revealed driving under the influence and warrants out of Kitsap County for driving under influence and driving while his license was suspended,” Casebolt said.

Adkins was driving a 2000 Ford Mustang southbound on Highway 101 just south of its intersection with state Highway 104 at about 3:45 p.m., a State Patrol report said.

Adkins lost control of his vehicle on a curve and left the roadway to the left, striking a power pole and overturning before striking a tree, the State Patrol report said.

He was wearing a seat belt and sustained only minor injuries.

Adkins’ 10-year-old son, who was riding with him, suffered cuts and bruises and a sprained wrist.

An 11-year-old boy who was also in Adkins’ car, suffered cuts, scrapes and bruises.

They were taken to Jefferson Healthcare hospital where they were listed in satisfactory condition Saturday night.

“The father was charged with vehicular assault based on injuries to his son,” Casebolt said.

“Driving under the influence is an element of vehicular assault.”

Both boys were wearing seat belts.

The Mustang was destroyed, the State Patrol said.
