PORT TOWNSEND — It could have rowed better, but then the crew of Iota Rho Beta wouldn’t have won the coveted Mediocrity Award for coming in “dead middle” at Sunday’s Kinetic Skulpture Race.
A first-time entry, pilot Scott David of Bainbridge Island credited his pit crew, sons Luc, 10, and Cal, 6, with the average victory.
But, he said, it was also in the attitude.
“I’ve been practicing being mediocre for many years,” David said.
“This is just the culmination of my mediocrity.”
It was a day full of mediocrity, puns, craziness and funny-looking, people-powered contraptions that participated in the 2003 edition of the Great Port Townsend Bay Kinetic Skulpture Race over land, water and ground consistencies in between.
