PORT ANGELES — Charges have been filed against the Port Angeles man who surrendered to law enforcement after a standoff west of Port Angeles on Tuesday.

Ordez Eugene Kompkoff, 21, was charged Friday with single counts of first-degree kidnapping, second-degree assault with a deadly weapon, first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, first-degree escape, heroin possession and two counts of harassment-threats to kill.

He will be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Clallam County Superior Court.

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office allege that Kompkoff held John Hosel hostage in a home at Salt Creek RV Park off state Highway 112 east of Joyce.

Deputies said Kompkoff threatened to shoot law enforcement officers as he and Hosel were inside the residence, according to the affidavit for probable cause.

Hosel told investigators Kompkoff held a pistol to his head, county Chief Criminal Deputy Brian King said Tuesday.

After receiving an anonymous tip at 9:45 a.m., police arrested Kompkoff’s mother and girlfriend at the residence on misdemeanor warrants prior to the standoff with authorities, court papers said.

Authorities secured the residence after learning Kompkoff had shut himself in the home with Hosel at about 11:30 a.m.

“Hostage negotiators were called to the scene and after several hours of negotiations Ordez Kompkoff surrendered without incident,” Sheriff’s Sgt. Lyman Moores wrote in the arrest report.

Kompkoff surrendered at about 4:25 p.m., court papers said.

A portion of state Highway 112 was closed during the standoff.

Arrest report

As the events unfolded, hostage negotiator Dave Dombrowski of the Port Angeles Police Department reported hearing Kompkoff say he would “pop John [Hosel] in the head” if authorities entered the residence, according to Moores’ arrest report.

Hosel told investigators that Kompkoff had grabbed him by the shirt, held a revolver to his head, told him not to open the door and said, “I like you, but I will shoot you if I have to,” according to the affidavit for probable cause.

Kompkoff later denied holding a gun to Hosel’s head, the report said.

After Kompkoff’s arrest, investigators found a loaded .357 revolver and a .380 semi-automatic pistol inside the residence.

During a body search of Kompkoff, deputies found drug paraphernalia and what appeared to be heroin residue, King said.

King added in a Tuesday interview that Kompkoff was extremely intoxicated and deputies believed he had taken a number of pills before surrendering.

Clallam County Superior Court Judge Erik Rohrer set Kompkoff’s bail at $750,000 in his initial court appearance Wednesday.

He was also placed on a state Department of Corrections hold.

Wanted

Kompkoff was wanted for skipping state custody in October while serving an 18-month sentence for his role in two Port Angeles incidents involving firearms.

A warrant was issued for Kompkoff’s arrest Nov. 8 after he failed to return from work while taking part in a work release program in Kitsap County, according to the state Department of Corrections.

The sentence stemmed from a reported drive-by shooting on Orcas Avenue in Port Angeles last March 18 and a home invasion on East Ninth Street on March 21.

Kompkoff remained in the Clallam County jail Friday.
