PORT ANGELES — The program for the 2003 Juan de Fuca Festival has won a Gold Award from the Washington Festival and Events Association.
The 32-page program — which marked the festival’s 10-year anniversary — was designed by Paula Cunningham of Classic Design, a Port Angeles graphic arts company, and the Peninsula Daily News’ Graphics Arts Department.
Artwork on the cover was by Port Angeles silk artist Karen Sistek.
“The Juan de Fuca Festival consistently has outstanding graphics, and we are pleased to present this award, said Scott Nagel, director of the 125-member festival organization. The award was presented at the group’s recent 2004 annual meeting.
Nagel is also a festival director — he was in charge of 2004’s Sequim Lavender Festival and the Dungeness Crab & Seafood Festival in Port Angeles.
The Juan De Fuca Festival is held each year in Port Angeles over the Memorial Day weekend.
It has a street fair, art show and six stages of dance, jazz, folk music from around the world, lectures, poetry and film.
Last year’s festival drew about 15,000 persons.
