CHIMACUM — One student received an emergency expulsion after a investigation following a report that a student overheard another student say that there would be a sale of a gun after school the same day.
No gun was found after Chimacum Junior/Senior High officials and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office investigated Thursday afternoon, said Superintendent Rick Thompson.
Two students were pulled from class and searched, Thompson said. They were not identified.
The vehicle of the student who was alleged to have plans to buy a gun was searched and ammunition was found, Thompson said. That student was place on emergency expulsion. School officials and the student will discuss next steps after winter break.
The other student involved said it was a joke.
All parents impacted were contacted, Thompson said.
The school operated as usual on Thursday and Friday, the last day before winter break on Friday.
“We take student and staff safety seriously,” Thompson said. “Our administrators acted swiftly and professionally.
“Threats or jokes about school violence in any form are not funny and will be investigated promptly,” he added.
“I encourage any student, parent, or community member to use our anonymous safety reporting system found on our website to report any suspicious activity.”
People can report any tips anonymously using the safety reporting button on the district’s website at www.csd49.org and officials will follow up immediately, they said.
