JOHN NELSON’S LIVE MUSIC: Heat up nightlife with music moves

IF THESE SUNNY days (who knew the sun could shine so much in January?) are too bright for you, get out and enjoy the night with live music.

Port Angeles

■ Today at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, sing and pick country-style at the jam hosted by High Country from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Saturday, the Jimmy Hoffman Band warms up the night with great country and classic rock ’n’ roll dance music from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

■ Today at the Junction Roadhouse, 242701 U.S. Highway 101, Jason Mogi and Paul Stehr-Green light up as Deadwood Experiment from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

On Saturday, rock ’n’ roll to Port Angeles’ Eggplant and its rocking blues from 8 p.m. to midnight.

■ On Saturday at Wine on the Waterfront, 115 Railroad Ave., you’re invited to Michael Rivers’ birthday celebration concert with special guests Erin Hennessey and David Rivers, Shawn Dawson, Dan Cobb and Dave Meyer, Scott Gassard and Charisa Silliman. The 7 p.m. all-ages concert features Irish fiddle tunes, old-time gospel and pop and original songs. No cover, but they may pass a hat.

■   String Theory brings the music of The Beatles, Elton John, The Rolling Stones and others to Bella Italia, 118 E. First St., today from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

■ On Monday, Justin Scott Rivet goes solo from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Bar N9ne, 229 W. First St.

■ On Friday, Les Wamboldt and Olde Tyme Country play and sing old songs at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Sunday, join the country jam from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, join in the fun with Dave and Rosalie Secord and the Luck of the Draw Band as they host a CD-release party for Cort and Kia Armstrong from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Every Tuesday at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., the Port Angeles Senior Swingers present Wally’s Boys playing ballroom dance favorites from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover; first-timers free.

■ At Dupuis Restaurant, 256861 U.S. Highway 101, Bob and Dave play blues Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Sequim and Blyn

■ On Friday at the Oasis Bar and Grill, 301 E. Washington St., kick up your heels with the Old Sidekicks to country and rockabilly songs from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Awesome Bob performs from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, Final Approach will have you dancing to the baby boomer music you remember from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

■ It’s “All the Buzz” Wednesday at the Sequim Senior Activity Center, 921 E. Hammond St., with Victor hosting the open mic from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

■ On Friday at Stymie’s Bar & Grill at Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road, Trevor and Sam perform from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ Tonight in Club Seven lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, Blyn, the Jenny Davis Duo invites you to kick back and enjoy her “silky”-smooth jazz stylings from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Friday, Top 40 dance band Nite Crew rocks from 8 p.m. to midnight.

On Saturday, Nite Crew returns from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Sunday, rocking country blues guitarist Sammy Eubanks and his band come across the Cascades for a can’t-miss show from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Port Townsend

■ On Friday at The Upstage, 923 Washington St., the Blue Holiday Band, featuring blues vocalist Frank Anderson with Randy Cole (bass), George Radebaugh (piano), Jeff Witekind (guitar) and Tim Sheffel (drums), will get you dancing in the aisles at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, prepare yourself for the antics and madcap style of Vagabond Opera at 8 p.m. $10 cover.

On Sunday, jazz players and vocalists come from near and far for Rex Rice’s Penultimate Sunday Jazz Jam at 6 p.m. $5 cover.

On Wednesday, enjoy the roots, blues, folk and rock of Gerry Sherman, Randy Cole, Sue Logg and friends at 7:30 p.m.

■ On Saturday at Sirens Pub, 823 Water St., the powerhouse duo of Danny Barnes and Matt Sircely conjure up some great innovative acoustic music at 10 p.m. $5 cover.

■ On Friday at the Uptown Pub and Grill, 1016 Lawrence St., Mathew Conyers plays “tormented ragtime, gothic flamenco blues and a bit of ADHD improv” from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■   Steve Grandinetti plays guitar at the Owl Sprit Cafe, 218 Polk St., today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Today, classical guitarist Trevor Hanson plays at Ichikawa Japanese Cuisine, 1208 Water St., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Every Monday, Trevor Hanson plays at Alchemy, 842 Washington St., from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■   Steve Grandinetti plays and sings at the Northwest Maritime Center Cafe, Port Townsend, on Thursdays and Fridays from noon till 2 p.m.

High notes

■ On Friday, Olympic Peninsula Dance brings The Blues Counselors, a hot mix of blues and rhythm and blues, to the Port Townsend Elks Lodge, 555 Otto St., from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Known for both its high energy and consummate professionalism, the Kitsap-based band will keep the dancing crowd on its feet the entire evening.

Adults, $15; students with ID and disabled, $10.

Attendance supports continuation of live band dancing in Port Townsend.

All are welcome. Smoke-free; all ages; no partner needed.

There will be a free (with admission) predance lesson in double-time swing taught by Janice Eklund at 7 p.m.

■ On Saturday, Port Angeles’ Midlyfe Crysis, Fluffy and D-Ray hit the road to Port Hadlock for a show with Static Illusion at Zoog’s Caveman Cookin’, 141 Chimacum Road, at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

■ On Saturday, Serendipity hosts a country jam at the Dry Creek Grange, 3130 Edgewood Drive, Port Angeles, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Jim Hoffman and High Country also will appear.

■ Los Angeles musician Mike Sullivan will present a free noontime concert Wednesday in the Pirate Union Building at Peninsula College, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.

Sullivan is a polished songwriter, vocalist and entertainer who plays both guitar and ukulele.
