JOHN NELSON’S LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: Cure what ails you once chillier times spring up

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL week. This spring-like weather should put a spring in your step, and what better way to take advantage of it than by dancing?

Dancing is a fun way to exercise, to get in your aerobics and get the exercise you need in the cooler months ahead.

Dancing to live music is the best prescription you can take.

Fortunately, there are many places you can do this on the Peninsula, so get out there and strut your stuff.

You’ll feel better and be glad you did.

Port Angeles

■ Today at the Junction Roadhouse, 242701 U.S. Highway 101, Chesnut Junction with Ches Ferguson, guitar; Kevin Briggs, guitar; Ron Daylo, flute; Paul Eyestone, bass; and percussionist Zubrie Kamau will have you grooving from 8 p.m. to midnight.

On Friday, dance to the blues of the Soulshakers, who will get your boogie on from 8 p.m. to midnight. $5 cover.

On Saturday, Ches, Paul, and Zubrie of Chesnut Junction are joined by Julie Campbell on fiddle and Dan Monte Calvo on banjo as Hazelnut Grove performs originals, Americana, and roots music from 8 p.m. to midnight. $3 cover.

On Wednesday, Kelly, Mick and Barry play mostly acoustic country and classic rock from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

■ Today at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, Jerry Robison will have you moving to a country groove with special guest Jim Lind from 5 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.

On Saturday, the Jimmy Hoffman Band will get you dancing to a country-rock groove from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

■ Today at Bella Italia restaurant, 118 E. First St., Kim Trenerry and Jason Mogi — the Mogis — play old-timey favorites on claw hammer banjo and guitar with sweet harmonies at 8:30 p.m.

■ On Saturday at Wine on the Waterfront, 115 E. Railroad Ave., the Mogis play at 8 p.m.

■ On Friday at Barhop Brewing, 124 W. Railroad Ave., the Soul Ducks play rockabilly, country and more from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

■ On Friday at Next Door Gastropub, 113 W. First St., will be filled with the genre-jumping, blues-blending sounds of Locos Only with Taylor Ackley, Kevin Lee Magner, Scott Bradley and Russ Lowry at 10 p.m.

On Sunday, Jonathan Warren and the Billy Goats perform at 4 p.m.

■ On Saturday at Bar N9ne, 229 W. First St., Locos Only moves down the street for another great night of dancing at 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, Olde Tyme Country with special guest Chuck Grall entertains from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Sunday, join the country jam from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

■ On Tuesday at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., the Port Angeles Senior Swingers present Wally’s Boys playing ballroom dance favorites from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover; first-timers free.

Sequim and Blyn

■ On Friday at The Oasis Bar and Grill, 301 E. Washington St., the Old Sidekicks play country favorites for your dancing pleasure at 5:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Blue Holiday plays blues and rock from 8 p.m. to midnight.

On Wednesday, Buck Ellard plays fiddle and guitar from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Today at Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., Cort Armstrong plays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

On Friday, Craig Buhler, George Radebaugh and Ted Enderle jazz it up from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

■ On Wednesday at Nourish Restaurant, 1345 S. Sequim Ave., Victor Reventlow hosts the open mic from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with sign-ups at 6 p.m.

■ On Friday at Stymie’s Bar & Grill at Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road, Trevor & Sam the Pirates play Irish pub music and folk songs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Friday in Club Seven lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, Blyn, The Pop Offs play classic and new rock for a lot of dancing fun from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Saturday, Idol Eyez plays all the newer dance hits, fronted by Rachael Kerr, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Friday in the Rainforest Bar, Jimmy Hoffman goes solo with classic country covers and originals from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Saturday, jazz songstress Sarah Shea accompanied by Al Harris on keyboard will jazz up your night from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Port Ludlow

■ Today in the Fireside Room at the Resort at Port Ludlow, 1 Heron Road, Trevor Hanson plays classical guitar from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Port Townsend

■ On Friday at Sirens, 823 Water St., the Lowest Pair — the “quirky, old-time-roots-influenced duet” of Kendl Winter and Palmer T. Lee — performs both traditional and original music on banjo with high lonesome harmonies at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

On Saturday, Luau Cinder has a unique blend of vintage and new technology in what it calls funk dub music at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

■ On Friday at Uptown Pub, 1016 Lawrence St., local cello virtuoso Brandon will perform from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. George Rezendes & Toolshed Trio will perform country blues, ragtime, folk and roots rock from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.

There’s no cover for either performance.

■ On Tuesday at the Cellar Door, 940 Water St., it’s a Neville Pearsall release party of his all-original CD “From So Far Away.” Neville performs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ Today, Steve Grandinetti plays guitar at the Owl Sprit Cafe, 218 Polk St., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Every Monday, Trevor Hanson plays guitar at Alchemy, 842 Washington St., from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

High notes

■ On Friday, R and B (Rachael and Barry) are joined by Tom Svornich and Paul Stehr-Green for a classic rock and Motown all-ages community dance at the Port Townsend Elks Lodge, 555 Otto St., at 8 p.m. Free dance lessons at 7 p.m. with paid admission. $15 adults; $10 students with ID.

■ On Saturday in Forks, a benefit for Rafe Price in his battle against cancer will take place at the Forks Elks Lodge, 941 Merchants Road, at 7 p.m. Local singer-songwriter Zach Winters provides the entertainment. There also will be a silent auction.

■ On Saturday in the Sequim High School cafeteria, 601 N. Sequim Ave., the Stardust Big Band and the Sequim High School Jazz Band entertain at a dinner-dance benefit for the Sequim High School Band Boosters at 6 p.m.

Tickets are available at the high school office or at the door. $15 singles; $25 couples.

■ On Saturday, Dave and Rosalie Secord provide the entertainment for the sixth annual harvest benefit for the Port Angeles Senior Center, presented by Park View Villas and Crestwood Convalescent Center, at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. $20 tickets are available at the senior center, 328 E. Seventh St.

■ On Saturday, Serendipity plays 1940s to ’60s music at the Dry Creek Grange, 3130 W. Edgewood Drive, Port Angeles, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Free, with refreshments served.

■ On Wednesday in Sequim at the Shipley Center (formerly the Sequim Senior Activity Center), 921 E. Hammond St., Peggy Heinz hosts the center’s first senior dance featuring the Cat’s Meow Jazz Band at 8 p.m. Center members, $4; nonmembers, $5.
